IT HAS been more than two months but the star attraction at Universal Studios Singapore, the Battlestar Galactica roller coaster, remains out of action.

The world’s tallest duelling roller coaster was closed on March 25 after a technical glitch was discovered during a routine morning pre-opening inspection.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, a Universal Studios spokesman said the company was still investigating the cause and solution to the problem.

He said that it cannot speculate when the ride will reopen.

However, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, in a report issued last week on Genting Singapore, the parent company of Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore, said it expects the ride to recommence only next year.

Last month, the roller coaster was tested – without passengers – during the evenings after the park closed.

An investigative team from the ride’s design, engineering and manufacturing company Vekoma based in the Netherlands and several expert independent assessors are still working on getting the attraction up and running again.

It has last been confirmed that the problem was a seat failure.

From Screamscape.

Battlestar Galactica - Closed For Repairs - (8/23/10) Resorts World has finally come forward to reveal the problems with the Battlestar Galactica coaster. As reported on Screamscape, on the morning of March 25th, one of the seats did fall off the coaster during a test-run. After months of “extensive inspection, testing and review” by Vekoma and other third party experts, the official conclusion from Vekoma is that the seat-post support failed due to “higher than anticipated stress and vibration levels”. According to Resorts World, a "new machined seat-post component" will replace the original welded component and strength-reinforcement parts will be added

Leave it Vekoma, only they could face a problem like this.

Now I'm no engineer, but how can they get something that wrong?

The ride hadn't even opened, had it? Yet the stress and vibrations were so extreme, the seat fell off? Maybe after a year of operation, yeah, but not before its even opened.

It is just not them that are getting things wrong though, look at the Intamin fails just this year :)

They got lucky though as that could have happened with someone in that seat. This was the 1st Vekoma 4 in a row seating so I suppose these things can happen. The coaster btw had already carried people, it was open to the public.

I thought the new trains and track were supposed to prevent excess stress and vibrations?
