Re: Top 10(ish): 2014 Edition

I reassessed stuff recently and re-did my Top 10. After not really going to many theme parks for a while, it was a good time to re-think everything on a level playing field.

So...

1. Expedition GeForce - Holiday Park
2. Balder - Liseberg
3. Colossos - Heide Park
4. Silver Star - Europa Park
5. Dragon Khan - Port Aventura
6. Goliath - Walibi Holland
7. Nemesis - Alton
8. Lisebergbanan - Liseberg
9. Swarm - Thorpe
10. Superman - Parque Warner Madrid

My revisit to Carowinds resulted in some slight shuffling outside the top 10

1. Millennium Force
2. El Toro
3. Boulder Dash
4. Kumba
5. Apollo's Chariot
6. Intimidator
7. Batman: The Ride
8. Griffon
9. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
10. Sheikra

11. Afterburn
12. Hulk
13. White Lightning
14. Montu
15. Nitro

After revisiting SFGAdv:

1. Millennium Force
2. El Toro
3. Boulder Dash
4. Kumba
5. Batman: The Ride
6. Apollo's Chariot
7. Intimidator
8. Griffon
9. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
10. Sheikra

11. Afterburn
12. Hulk
13. White Lightning
14. Montu
15. Nitro

Batman, while usually not considered a particularly impressive invert, continues to be my favorite of the type. It ran well today, and bumped up a couple spots.

Nitro continues to disappoint me. While it's a good ride, it has not lived up to the expectation of being one of the better B&M hypers. I still find Apollo and Intimidator to be significantly better.

I love Batman the Ride. What it lacks in stats it makes up for with force. Still an intense, fun as hell ride.

Nitro used to be great, but in recent years it seems to run poorly now :( Huge let down now.

Re: Top 10(ish): 2014 Edition

I think the reason Batman isn't always considered one of the best is because the layout is not the most interesting, it's short and although it's relentless pace is a very good thing, it doesn't really let you appreciate all the features of the ride as well. However, it's probably the most intense invert I've ridden, which still makes for an excellent ride.

Apart from the C train, I thought Nitro was very good when I rode it in early July. There was good airtime and it was very graceful like a B&M Hyper should be apart from its rattle.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. Obviously it's a lot of personal preference, but the pacing and intensity of the ride just work perfectly for me. It's a great ride, despite its lack of height and length.

^^Purely because of the length I disagree about Goliath being better than Outlaw Run. It is by far the best ride they could have put into that space, though.

Re: Top 10(ish): 2014 Edition

Both are incredible. Goliath, had it been longer, would have been my #1 no doubt. It did leave me wanting more. I did leave, even after multiple rides, in more shock of the "WTF" on Goliath than Outlaw.. which is why I ranked it above it.

Re: Top 10(ish): 2014 Edition

I think the reason I like Goliath so much is because there's airtime all over the ride; each element has its own unique way of delivering a floating sensation. Whether it's the pops on the overbanks or the hang time on the dive loop and stall, there's weightlessness involved somewhere.

I've decided that trying to make a top 10/25/50 including both steel and wood is extremely difficult to do. For that reason I've now decided that it makes better sense to rank them separately, making for a more accurate ranking. Here's how my top steel and wood look now...
