I read some stuff on that.

Essentially, it all comes down to a bunch of people who have never had sex picking up the tiniest details and (when they can concentrate long enough (ie stop <img> off over "the fit girls")) essentially coming to the conclusion it makes absolutely no difference... Other than to people who prefer arguments over consoles to having a sex life ;)

Lol... Epic post there furie...

Does it really matter which version people get? It's exactly the same game isn't it? Oh WOW a BETA?! Want... Not...

Gah, when's Command & Conquer 4 out... That I do want...

Watching the GDC 2010 Sony Press Conference & the "Playstation Move" controllers look to have fail written all over them. I understand the need to mimic the Wii controllers, but this doesn't look like the way to go. I hope Microsoft do a better job when theirs (if they actually go that route).

Pierre has got it I think. The Wii not only does it already, but it's already got hundreds of millions of people with them... Erm... not buying or playing games (unless they have Mario, Link or Samus in them).

The Playstation controller is better, because it tracks full 3d movement (including forwards and backwards) much better than the Wii. But technologically it's a real fail. It's ten year old technology hacked in place to try and compete with the Wii (which you don't want to compete with for the reasons above).

Natal is the same (only better tech). Great, you can now do things which involve much more hard work than the way you did them before and it makes your tight gameplay sloppy and inaccurate (anyone who has played a Wii driving game (other than Mario Kart) will tell you how abysmal it is using motion controls compared to a stick or real wheel).

I think at least MS have gone the right way. They've looked at it and gone for the "new tech, new way of looking at things" approach. Sony? Clutching at straws.

Bought Uncharted 2 yesterday and AvP Not played AvP yet but it looks a bit pants.

Uncharted 2? I can see where Marc is coming from. It's just more of the first one. It's better looking and the game play is tweaked to near perfection - but it is just "more of the same". I guess I couldn't have expected more really  I think it shows how great the first game must have been though, that it pretty much conquered this game type in the first iteration - the follow up is almost more like an expansion. So, not 100% sure as of yet, but it IS compelling. You sit and think "just five minutes more" and you're still sat there an hour later :)

Oh God. These standing about waving your arms about controllers are the death of real games.

Ok, so proper games will still exist but there is blatently a lot of money to be made from these games by flogging them to young kids and old biddies. It's bad news. It'll be a shame if companies start forcing gamers down this route.

Damn you, Nintendo.

Playstation Move looks alot more interesting than Natal. Natal will just be used for mini-games and will get boring jogging and moving on the spot whereas 'Move' has already confirmed that you'll be able to play full games such as SOCOM 4 using it. The tech is really good as well. It may be old and they may just be releasing it now but it improves on what the Wii already does. The PS3 has better graphics than the Wii and the controller has pinpoint accuracy whereas the Wii is pretty pants at that. :p

I still prefer to play games with the standard controller though.
Plus HERE is another article about it.

But the point is, it's going to haemorrhage money. Nobody is going to choose the PS3 over the Wii for that controller.

Meaning the only people who will buy it is the existing fanbase. Of which even they won't be too interested in it given the huge lack of backwards compatibility.

Btw, I've got further in FF13, it is ****ing epic, the story is unwinding brilliantly, but I'm still disappointed with run battle run moar battle run run battle save run item battle battle.

I've honestly had no trouble with my Wii and the accuracy of the controller, so maybe someone's callibration is buggered...

Plus... That controller, why does it have a ball on it? That's all I see on it...

Finally... Did you not realise that Wii has full games as well already? So it's basically Sony's version of the Wii where you have to buy even more stuff in order to play a hella lot of games... And better graphics don't always mean a good game...

^No, but, being on the Wii means it's definitely NOT a good game.

Seriously, Wii's are terrible, terrible consoles, the worst thing to happen to gaming for years.

But, selling mine at least got me a load of 360 games <3

^If it's so terrible, then why are Microsoft and Sony bringing out their own motion control systems?

There are a few good games on it, but at least half of them are terrible things I would never ever bother with... But name me a console without any games like that...

^Because people are stupid sheep who will buy anything that promises fun, play it once, and then forget about it?

And those "good games"? You mean "wonders" like Mario Kart... Smash Bros... Zelda? ALL of which are sub-par entries into series which Nintendo have flogged like a dead horse for years?

The Wii laughably dies next to any console made in the last 10 years.

The Wii is terrible how it works. It sold loads though as it appeals to non-gamers and people who want to have a fun party console to play with friends.
Microsoft and Sony are bringing out their own systems not just because they've seen how popular they are but also because they can both better what the Wii can do.
The Wii is terrible though. Almost everyone I know who has a Wii (which is alot of people) rarely play it after about a month after they get it. Maybe turn it on during the odd occasion of when you have friends round but otherwise it's just gathering dust.
What's happening here is they've got much better technology and are adding it to already popular systems that people play regularly and are online on alot.
Once the PS3 and 360 have tech that works better than the Wii and better looking games, the number of Wii players will slowly drop as people decided to get slightly more expensive consoles for a better gaming experience.

Some people are happy with what they've got though and wont buy a new console but alot of people will be willing to pay a few quid more than the Wii to get a much better machine.

I probably explained that all wrong but I know what I mean. :p

Its a knee jerk reaction. Both Sony and MS looked four years ago and said "we shall slice up the pie between us - but one of us will have the PS2's share".

Then they sat back and watched in amazement as the Wii flew off the shelves.

Then a person at each company said "why are Nintendo trouncing us? It must be because they have motion controllers - go forth and bring one to our console, then the pie will once again be ours!!! MWahahahahahaaaaaaaa"

Sadly, they missed the point.

The Wii sold because Wii Sports was simple and pretended to be "active" gaming. The Wii was also very cheap and had a fun factor. People in general don't like gaming because they think it involves curly haired teens sitting in a darkened bedroom playing games that involve shooting people and arguing over whether 4 times anti-aliasing on 720p is better than 2 times anti-aliasing on 1080p. Gaming, has a bad press for being up it's own arse.

So the Wii appealed to all those who like to play games, but dislike gaming. These people have found memories of when gaming was simple and fun. Games like Super Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda.

Nintendo handed these people those games on a huge silver platter and the people lapped them up.

That's fine and good. People bought the Wii for Wii sports (and tied to that also Wii fit, Wii Play and Sports Resort). They also bought into the Nintendo first party games (if it has Mario on it, it MUST be good) and anything cheap which looked like it might be Wii Sports (Carnival games (shudder) and Beach Sports (shuddddddder).

Whil all of this is going on, Activision, EA, et al are looking at the Wii like it's a money making machine. 3-5 times the number of Wiis out there compared to the other consoles, and you can port your crap old PS2 games over for a tiny cost. Bring in the dollars!

But their games never sold on the console, they just don't. Most big publishers have recently announced their displeasure with the Wii and that the place to make money is on the PS3 and 360. You sell to a smaller audience, but more people buy.

There are exceptions of course, but for the most part, it's true. Wii games don't make money for anyone other than Nintendo and people shovelling complete tripe.

So, back to Sony and MS with their motion tracking games. They've brought their version of the technology needed to compete with Nintendo - sadly missing the fact that they already sell more games (percentage wise) to their console owners than third parties on Nintendo do. In essence, Sony and MS are the best money producing consoles for developers. Both have already outsold the "last generation" losers in terms of numbers (the Wii is selling about the same number as the PS2 sold, Both the 360 and PS3 have sold more than the GameCube and X-Box sold).

So now they have motion controllers, for a set of games people have been playing for a few years (and are pretty much sick of) on the Wii. People who will buy this tech will already have a Wii, so their market is limited to people with a PS360 and no Wii who want to waggle their arms around (it's a small market).

So, in essence, Sony and MS are stupid for trying to shoe-horn themselves into a market which there's no place for them. I'm sure that their versions of the games will be "better" than Nintendo's - more serious. However, they'll only be selling to the converted (I'm excited by the sword fighting game on Move, I must admit).

MS have done this differently though. They've looked at the tech and thought outside the box. They have produced something very different. Imagine Natal mixed with 3D tv? You reach into the screen to grab things in full depth. It's not just a wave your arms around system, it promises so much more.

Benin, the "Ball" on the Move controller is for object tracking. The system works using the "Playstation Eye" camera and it tracks motion in 3D space using the webcam and the ball is what it recognises to find it's position. It's supposed to be VERY accurate and does something the Wii remote can't - track the controller in true space. So the sword fighting game will work because it's true 1-1 tracking, not just the position you're using the controller in, but also how close or far you are (for thrusts, parries, etc).

There we are then, all explained :p

Argh, yeah!

I wanna explore towns and open plains and find cool stuff, like in ALL the other FF games. This one's so linear, it's really frustrating.

I hope I get to do that eventually, but I am 15 hours in, and I think I should be doing that kind of thing by now. :p
