Shanghai Disneyland building a “high-speed roller coaster”?

Why would they be accepting bids if it was just a clone of Everest? Surely they'd just go back to Vekoma, given that they do launches now too!

Without looking into it properly, which means I could be chatting total s**t, it could be to do with local laws.

I don't know how it works in Mainland China, but in Hong Kong there are certain laws and restrictions when it comes to how public money is spent, meaning that any kind of construction should be set out for tender (the job is "open" for any company to apply for) before decisions are made. Have they already made their decision before that happens? Likely yes, but they still have to go through the performance that the job isn't directly going to their friend's construction company.

Could be a similar thing here. Vekoma will be building it, but they have go through the performance that it's an open job.

Like I said through, that could be total crap.

In all honesty, we already knew this wasn't apart of the Zootopia, and an Avengers Campus area in Shanghai is very likely on the table. As for the credibility of the source, Jake from Jake's Journeys is a Disney YouTuber based out of Shanghai, so take his word however you will. In any case, I'm willing to believe that Shanghai Disney is presently developing a high-speed Spiderman launch coaster for who knows what year.

As of the beginning of this month, Vekoma has been contracted for the project (this is Disney, no surprise). Not sure if or who else were making bids for the attraction.

A high-speed.... Spider-Man..... launch coaster... that's outdoors. Makes no sense at all, so of course Disney would do it.

Some docs from November are pegging this project at $342M+ and 7,000 square meters. For recent comparison the new Zootopia land was $407M+ and occupies 12,400 square meters.

It's press day at Shanghai Disney, and they've officially referenced a new attraction under development. Only confirmed detail is that it won't be Zootopia;

Recently, the resort began initial preparation work for construction of a separately themed attraction to be located within Shanghai Disneyland, adjacent to Zootopia. The project work is at the initial planning stage and resort shareholders and management look forward to providing more updates as work progresses in the future.

In the meantime, piling work has also been completed for their third hotel.

I haven't looked too closely at the plans beyond just the layout, but my gut feeling says this'll be something like a Big Bear Mountain/Jungle Rush-style Vekoma coaster.

I get the funny feeling that this is a new version of Avenger Campus with a roller coaster instead of a dark ride.... However, it will be interesting to what Disney come up with, especially considering the new Intamin coaster at Tokyo Disneyland...

I'd say you're mostly right. Except for all the arrows are the wrong way round.

Launch to the right from the station would make more sense layout wise.

I believe @MLDesigns has the correct direction of travel. I downloaded the plans out of curiosity and zooming into footers shows arrows that designate the footer orientation. Frame support footers seem to indicate direction toward corresponding footers, but footers located directly underneath track appear to indicate direction of travel.
