Prepare for more over-zealous, angry and moronic Facebook posts on the Chessie FB page over the coming days - personally I'll enjoy the free, entertaining and gripping reading material that it'll provide.

http://news.sky.com/story/1104480/about ... ngton-ride

The Fire Brigade are working to rescue 40 people stuck on a ride at Chessington World Of Adventures in south west London.

The emergency services were called to the theme park shortly after 5 pm.

Those on the ride are stranded 20ft (6m) in the air.

Justin Coo of London Fire Brigade told Sky News that many of those trapped were "agitated and stressed".

He said children as young as eight were likely to have been on it but - as there was a minimum height requirement of 1.4 metres - there were not thought to be any aged younger.

Can't wait to see how badly The Mirror sensationalises this story. I kind of do hope this ride gets spited soon. Replace it with a ride that isn't 1.4, like a fountain!

individually cut out of ride restraints

Surely they're not literally cutting through the ride restraints? There must be some sort of manual restraint release built into this, or didn't Huss think that manually releasing restraints might be useful one day? I'm guessing that London Fire Brigade comment is just media over-hyping the situation...

From what I've read so far Peter, not this time. I believe the manual release failed, meaning that the fire brigade were left no option but to literally cut people out

OK, so the systems failed in the sense that they didn't release when required. However, if their main purpose is to prevent injury, then they certainly did their job. Lets remember that as the press goes wild tomorrow...

I can see it now, "they were dangling and screaming for there lives as the fire brigade cut them from there seats"
Remember apparently according to the newspapers the guest were left "dangling on The Smiler" LOL

I am please nobody was injured though perhaps that's the only thing Chessington can reflect on....

Make the most of this. Most likely the last time you'll ever see it...

^ at the very least they'll need some new restraints! ;)

At least it did not get stuck upside down, it can now be fitted with lapbars

I'm heading for "AT" this Thurs, Huss Top Spin breakdown part 2

Does a "Top Spin" have an extreme mode which I can tell the operator to use when I go on "Ripsaw"

Update from Fire Brigade Website

Firefighters were called out to a theme park in Chessington this afternoon after 39 people became stuck on a fairground ride.

Fire crews used ladders and specialist cutting equipment to help the people - a combination of adults and children - down from the ride. People were individually cut out of ride restraints before being assisted down from the ride. They were up right when the ride stopped.

Station Manager Justin Coo, who was at the scene, said:

"Firefighters assisted the trapped people down from the ride, which was around 12 feet above a walkway. We cut people out of their restraints, before walking them down the ride and helping them down a ladder to ground level. No injuries have been reported though a few people were understandably a bit uncomfortable as they were stuck for some time. Firefighters did very well to get people down as quickly and safely as possible."

A fire engine from Surbiton fire station along with three fire rescue units from Wimbledon, Battersea, and Heston fire stations went to the scene. The LFB was called at 1720 and everyone was safely off the ride by 1932.

Yes, tell them to turn it up to 11.

It would be too easy and obvious for me to take pleasure in this, but since one of the few experiences worse than visiting Chessington is riding a top spin, I'm glad that there will likely be fewer of them.

Why not remove the plastic covers and unbolt the restraints? Plus, with the lap bar / OTSR combo, this must have taken an insane amount of extra time.

I think someone just wanted practice using the jaws of life tool.

I knew something like this would happen on Rameses one day. The thing has been looking like its struggling through cycles for years now. This will be the end for it now I think and I bet it gets replaced with nothing.

This piece of crap sounded like **** when I visited in 2006!

Anyway, I don't for one minute believe that cutting the restraints was the last option. Maybe they did it in case it incited more fear? As in "OMG I CANT BELIEVE THE RESTRAINTS CAN BE OPENED SO EASILY!!!"

**** knows.
