So, fairly premature, but I've had a bit of time over the last week or so stuck in hotel rooms for work, and I've begun to think about this.

I've reworked a bunch of the back-end stuff within the calculations, so they should be a lot more robust (should I decide to try and pass it on in the future, you'll stand a chance at understanding my working!), but I'm planning on making a few adjustments to the points scoring system.

I'll keep this topic open for a few months, so feel free to drop any suggestions in and I'll see if I can incorporate them.

So far, the current changes I have are:

Distance points

I'm no longer going to ask for your home country and continent, and score the "abroad" and "continent" points as binary decisions. Instead, I'll ask for your home city (and state/country if there's any ambiguity) and record the latitude-longitude of the city (only - I don't want your address or anything like that for obvious reasons).

I'll then calculate the great circle distance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great-circle_distance) in kilometers of the park from your home city. This distance, divided by 250 and rounded down to the nearest whole number, will be your "distance" points. As a couple of examples:

Bristol -> Alton Towers = 177km = 0 points (177/250 = 0.71)
Bristol -> Phantasialand = 665km = 2 points (665/250 = 2.66)
Bristol -> Cedar Point = 5921km = 23 points (5921/250 = 23.68)
Bristol -> Warner Bros Movie World = 16714km = 66 points (16714/250 = 66.86)
Bristol -> Bristol Antipode = 20015km = 80 points (20015/250 = 80.06)

I'll probably award some bonus points at the end of the year for the furthest/closest single trip and largest/smallest total distance, but I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

Other minor changes
  • Shows/Parades = 2 points
  • New for 2019 = 10 points (maximum 5 per park per day)
  • ORP/ORV/Solo = 10 points (maximum of 5 per park per day)
That's all I've got for now, but I will update this topic should anything else come to me.

I'd love to hear about anything you want implementing - but please be considerate, I do this all in my spare time and I spend the time now trying to make the rest of my year pretty straightforward! Let's hear your suggestions. :)

Guess me, @Coasterfreck and digipasses had something to do with the photo points restrictions? :p

All changes are good with me though!
Yeah. It was an oversight on my part really - I don't know why I did it for character photos and not for the ORPs/ORVs. I can only assume I didn't account for digipasses. :p

You know I already approve of the distance idea.
Are those distance points a bonus on top of the standard earning for 'doing' a park?

What do you mean by solo?
Couple of the relevant rules - easier to quote than to re-type. :p
http://coasterforce.com/forums/threads/league-of-goons-2018-the-rules.42202/
Rollercoasters = 5 points per cycle (+ 1 point per front/back row, +1 point per solo ride, +1 point for first/last train of the day)
Roller coaster solo points only count if the coaster train/car seats 4 or more people
Proof of solo ride points can be earned for any photograph of you riding in an empty train - this does not have to be an official ORP.
If your proof of solo ride is an official ORP, then you will get two sets of points.

Ah, thanks. I keep forgetting about a whole bunch of the changes you made to the rules :p Could have got solo points on a Yas Island cred but I don't think Patrick took a photo. Oh well.

You can have the solo points without a photo, it's just that the photo gives you a bonus. As with all of this, it's based on trust that you'll report your points properly. :)
