How many resort hotels have you visited?

Having just returned from yet another stay at
a resort hotel I've noticed myself getting a bit of a taste for them. Here are the ones I've visited:

Hotel PortAventura
Gold River (PA)
Hotel Matamba (Phantasialand)
Port Royal (Heide Park)
Alton Towers Hotel
Splash Landings
Davy Crockett Ranch (DLP)
Hotel Santa Fe (DLP)

My favourite so far is definitely Matamba. Everything from the room decor to the food to the fun touches like the animal sound effects and the bar entertainment.

Obviously top of my list is the Disneyland Hotel in Paris, but I'd also love to stay at the Polynesian Resort at WDW and the Efteling hotel.

I've been to two so far. Efteling Hotel and Hotel Matamba.

I visited the Efteling Hotel when I was 9, I think. To me it was just so magical and amazing, meeting Pardoes (the park's mascot) and just the atmosphere of the place. I have really nice memories of it. They give you this fab key:

I'd say that unless you get a specifically themed suite (like the Vliegende Hollander), that it isn't as mindblowing for adults though. The normal rooms are pretty nice but nothing amazing.

Hotel Matamba in Phantasialand was fantastic though. I've actually been there this year, and it has the same insane amount of immersion, attention for detail and over the top theming as the main park. Downside is that it's just so expensive. Also, the garden wasn't as good as Ling Bao's, which is absolutely LOVELY, especially at night with soothing traditional chinese music and torches <3. Matamba's rooms were really beautiful and high quality as well.

Here was the view from our balcony:

Re: How many resort hotels have you visited?

Only one I think: Chimelong Ocean Kingdom. The hotel itself was stunning and the room/suite was excellent, but the service was a bit **** for a 5* resort. To be fair, it hadn't been open long, so I think the staff were still very much finding their feet with the whole thing.

I'm not usually bothered about staying on site as I tend not to spend a great deal of time in hotel rooms anyway, so I'll usually try to find something cheaper nearby. For example, with Disneyland a few months ago, I stayed at a hotel/motel a ten-minute walk from the parks that was 1/4 of the price of staying on site.

That's probably the major issue of traveling alone; you're not splitting costs with anyone, so it becomes a lot more expensive and you have to be a bit more careful with the cash, especially for longer trips. I get why some people would want to stay on site, and, for some parks, there may not be much of a choice anyway.

For Florida in February, I'm going to stay at a Disney hotel for the first 5 nights to get easier access to the parks, then move up to much cheaper place on International Drive for the remainder of the trip, partly for access to the parks and partly because it's a **** load cheaper.

Flamingo land caravan park.
Disneyland California grand Californian
Disney world Saratoga springs
Disney world all stars pop
Disney world Coronado springs
Disneyland Paris Disneyland hotel
Disneyland Paris Newport bay
Disneyland Paris sequoia lodge

Next will be animal kingdom lodge.

Two stand out hotels was the Disneyland hotel in Paris. It was stunning, nice park views and the room was great.

The hotel in California was amazing. The lobby was the best I've seen and the grounds were so well done. Just long walks to the room.

Both were done using Dvc, would I pay cash? No way as the prices in there for drinks and food was just stupid. Plus it's just a room to sleep in.

Disney World - Swan
Disney World - Dolphin
Disney World - Saratoga Springs
Disney World - Animal Kingdom Lodge

Universal- Cabana Bay Beach Resort

Alton Towers - Splash Landings
Alton Towers - Alton Towers Hotel

Chessington- Holiday Inn

Port Aventura Hotel - Port Aventura

Heide Park - Port Royal

DLP- Disneyland Hotel
DLP- Hotel New York
DLP- Sequioa Lodge
DLP- Newport Bay

The best of the bunch is definitely Disneyland hotel at Disneyland Paris. Expensive but well worth it, the hotel is magical and especially at Christmas it comes alive with all the log fires and the Christmas music playing, its just a very nice place to stay and my favourite Disney hotel.

I liked the Animal Kingdom lodge at WDW, we had rooms overlooking the savannah and its cool watching giraffes on your hotel balcony. Its something different although we found it a little out of the way and I prefer the location of the Swan and Dolphin being right next to the studios, Epcot and the Boardwalk although the Swan was extremely over priced in my opinion.

- Side note in case you are going WDW anytime soon - the Swan and Dolphin are being refurbished at the moment and the drilling starts very early and is so loud. I managed to get a discount after we complained but we weren't happy. I would avoid these hotels whilst this is being done.

Special mention to Universals new Cabana Bay Beach resort. I paid $130 dollars a night for a family suite with its own living room and kitchen which I thought was very good for a resort hotel and you get the early access to Potter. Highly recommend this place it was really nice and had a great feel to it. Free transport to and from City walk to the early hours as well.

Yeah Spicy I was tempted to split our stay at the animal kingdom as its miles away from just about everything.

Will do it the once though for two weeks then try somewhere else next time.

I assumed seeing that this was a theme park based website that it was a given that this would be park related, but if people want to go ahead and list any casino/spa/golf/whatever resort hotels they've stayed at, by all means.

I love the look of this hotel, will definitely be staying there when I go back to Florida.

I've visited lots (including going into rooms etc) but haven't stayed in them, this includes:
Disneyland Paris Hotel
Disneyland Paris - Hotel New York
Disneyland Paris - Hotel Cheyenne
Disneyland Paris - Sequoia Lodge
WDW - Port Orleans (French Quarter)
WDW - Polynesian

I've stayed at:
Disneyland Paris - Santa Fe (very meh, wouldn't pay full price)
WDW - Old Key West (amazing, really loved it)
Efteling - Bosrijk (incredible, very magical, want to go back)
Chessington: WoA (nice modern room with a great view)
Alton Towers (over priced and dated)
Port Aventura Gold River (amazing, really loved the scale and attention to detail in the theming)
Europa Park Castillo Alcazar (fantastic if a bit of a maze, great views of the park)

Overall I can usually take it or leave it when it comes to theme park resort hotels. Unless it's a huge destination like Efteling or Disney. I tend to prefer finding accommodation that is more reasonably priced and in a good travel location, means I get to see more than just the parks (or at least that's the idea).
