Looopings are reporting that Efteling will be investing €3m in improvements to Carnival Festival - https://www.looopings.nl/weblog/114...l-Festival-vernieuwde-scenes-en-techniek.html

The improvements include:
-New adaptations of the Japan, China and Africa scenes
-Replacing all lighting
-Renovation of all (118) cars

The improvements will take place start of March until end of May.

In the article, Looopings have said the park have said they're not renovating the scenes in response to the claims of racism in those particular scenes, but are renovating them to give a better reflection of how those parts of the world are.

Personally I would have rather "renovated" it with a bulldozer, and saved that 3m to go towards a replacement attraction but oh well...

Still Efteling have been on a roll in terms of ride refurbishments and improvements recently (Python retrack excluded) which is great to see!

I wonder if the new 'adaptations' are going to rely less on racial stereotyping? I really like the ride, the music is stupidly addictive, too. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

Carnival is not the only ride getting a major refurbishment this year. The "De Oude Tufferbaan" car ride will be closed for 2 months as work costing 1.8 million euros takes place to add new cars with onboard music and interactive elements, and new scenes.

From the Efteling Blog: https://www.efteling.com/nl/blog/nieuws/20190212-onderhoud-de-oude-tufferbaan
The well-known Efteling classic De Oude Tufferbaan gets a makeover. From mid-April, the smallest guests will soon be tugging in new cars and pick-ups along a number of new scenes.

In the exciting Ruigrijk realm since 1984 the 580 meters long course of the old timer track. It is an attraction where even the little ones can drive themselves. The current red, yellow and blue T-Fords, which are still tucking around, are really in need of replacement after almost 35 years. For this reason, the operating system and vehicles of the attraction will be replaced by 1.8 million euros in just two months from 18 February. The route remains the same.

The old Ford cars are replaced by unique cars and pick-ups, with room for 4 people per vehicle. In the cars everyone is under cover, in the pick-ups only the drivers. Also new: during the ride you will soon hear an infectious melody/new soundtrack.

By using a double entry system, where guests board two cars at a time, the capacity is increased. The popular tuffer track remains accessible for guests with disabilities. Furthermore, the attraction becomes a bit more sustainable: all existing lighting is replaced by LED lighting.

From mid-April you drive on De Oude Tufferbaan through a typically Dutch landscape. Along the way you come across different scenes with farm animals. Use the horns from the vehicles here, the animals respond to it! In a subsequent blog we will tell you more about these interactive scenes.
Will you be taking a ride on De Oude Tufferbaan before it closes on February 18th?

Also as it is currently carnaval season Efteling released their own surreal carnaval song sung by the character from Symbolica: O J Punctuel.

It's nice to see them focus on their older rides that haven't seen an update in a long time. It always boggles my mind how much money they manage to throw at these refurbs though.
