I thought you might be interested in seeing what I get up to at the weekends! And Neal might like it because there's lot of red cars...

Two weekends ago I paid a visit to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the annual 24 hour race. I was shooting the British CRS Racing team; a big budget, two Ferrari F430 GT team, with a fantastic driver line-up for this epic race.

My brief was simple; shoot everything. Not just the cars on track! Here's a selection of my favourites!

001.jpg

Wednesday arrival, and a photoshoot of all the cars. That red one is one of mine!

002.jpg

Special CRS Racing tape markers in the pit box! It's the little touches of class!

003.jpg

Autograph session, Phil Quaife, Tim Mullen and Rob Bell.

007.jpg

All the drivers for the race. It says 24H you see! Very clever!

008.jpg

Official team shot! Back row L-R: Rob Bell, Andrew Kirkaldy, Antonio Garcia, Peter Kox (quite the mega line up) and the front row L-R: Phil Quaife, Tim Mullen, Chris Niarchos, Chris Goodwin.

There be storms in the air!

Mind the kerbs, they're wet!

014.jpg

On the exit.

015.jpg

Looking down!

016.jpg

Heading to Rivage corner.

017.jpg

Second practice now. Exit of La Source, the familiar building!

018.jpg

Through La Source.

019.jpg

It's a popular photographer spot on the inside of La Source!

031.jpg

Qualifying as good as over, with two night sessions still to run! Big rain!

032.jpg

Moist.

033.jpg

Cars back in the garage, they're not going out in that!

034.jpg

Here's that shot from the inside of La Source... the rain briefly stopped and allowed some people to get their night laps in.

035.jpg

Quick pit stop and driver change.

036.jpg

OMG GHOST CAR!

037.jpg

Session over. Thoughtful looks.

038.jpg

Saturday morning; Antonio checks the warm up timings.

039.jpg

Rob Bell; wide eyed and on the coffee already!

040.jpg

Chris Niarchos has a look down the pitlane.

Another pit stop during warm up.

042.jpg

Tyre change.

043.jpg

Top down.

044.jpg

During the parade. Car #55 team.

045.jpg

And #56 team!

046.jpg

Finally the race started, the field thundered up to Les Combes.

047.jpg

#55 got a bit wide at some point and collected some mud!

048.jpg

Along side one of the gorgeous Maserati MC12s

049.jpg

The rain came again during the first couple of hours of the race, so I shot from the trees!

050.jpg

That famous corner...

051.jpg

The exit of Radillon. No photo can show you how steep this really is.

052.jpg

CRS Racing's catering staff. "Fooey" the head chef!

053.jpg

Balloons came out at dusk!

054.jpg

Nice sunset over Eau Rouge.

055.jpg

Interesting dry line!

056.jpg

Into the evening now, that lovely Ferrari pop on the downchange.

057.jpg

Look at the mist hanging in the trees! Spa is a crazy place!

057a.jpg

11pm: Fireworks time!

058.jpg

The CRS pit wall bathed in a red glow.

059.jpg

Having a noodle break!

060.jpg

Yep, 24 hours.

061.jpg

Getting ready for another pit stop.

062.jpg

Here it is!

063.jpg

Getting late now, people start to drop in the press room.

064.jpg

But the teams keep the cars running!

065.jpg

After a 4-hour nap, it was back to La Source for a nice morning shot! And what a nice morning it was!

066.jpg

Getting any sleep they can...

067.jpg

Cars beginning to look a bit weathered now!

068.jpg

Through Rivage.

069.jpg

The track's looking a bit worse for wear too! Lots of marbles.

070.jpg

Early afternoon pit stop.

071.jpg

Close to the end now, another run through the Eau Rouge/Radillon complex.

072.jpg

CRS Racing takes third place in class, after 24 hours the champagne must taste pretty sweet!

073.jpg

Kirkaldy and Bell celebrating!

Well, you might have found that interesting... you might not!

Wow, there are some seriously good photos in there. Actually makes me ashamed to put mine on here!

And I found that very interesting, even if I'm not normally a fan of racing!

NOOOO!!!!!!

Martyn, please say you took more photos of the Nissan GTR.
Theres one down my road, but its nothing like seeing it as a GT pedigree.

Excellent work there Martyn. Very impressive.

I guess that it helps that its pretty interesting subject matter, but the candid shots are equally as good as the shiny (or muddy) cars. :)

So when are you going to be able to do this malarky full time then? ;-)

Thanks very much!

Full time? Probably never. I rather like having a job in the week and then doing this for some extra pocket money.

Plus, it seems that to earn a comfortable salary from it, you have to do a lot of work, less of the fun stuff too, and in my experience, you get less creative and start shooting quantities to fill the brief rather than spending time getting nice shots... I don't really want to enter that world!

Ugh, it was the ugliest car there! It doesn't even look like a racing car! It's far too tall.

It does sound good though.

Here's 15 shots of it that I happened to get though! ;)

I've decided to never post one of my pictures on here. Anyone said "professional"? You don't have to, those pictures scream it so I hear it even when I shut off my PC.

And one day, we have to send you to a park to take some shots. Please?

Some great pictures there.

But am I the only one who found the storm pictures more interesting than the cars?

Once again Martyn, I have to congratulate you on making all of us feel highly inadequate with a camera!

Those photos are great and the cars look great. Was there a good atmosphere?

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

No, I prefered the storm pictures to the cars.

Cars are boring unless they're exploding.
