[PTR] Crazy trip around Europe (Day 2 up)

Mushroom

Goon of the Year
It is about time I do a trip report of my recent trip around Europe! This took in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and France.

Day 1: The long day!

The trip started at midnight on Sunday 11th May from my flat in Leeds. I was on call for work on the Saturday on a late shift though. So had no option to travel down to Stansted for our 6:30 flight. Nice and quiet drive down, to our first stop, Peterbrough services where we picked up Dave. Then it is to Stansted, dropped my car off at my old housemates place. He normally gives me a lift to the airport, but he wasn't in work till a bit later, we got a tax to the airport.

Got some brekkie at weatherspoons, and got onto the flight and took off on time to Memmingem airport. Landed a bit early, grabbed our car from Hertz, a nice Ford Focus with plenty of room. Then it was off to our first park, a half hour drive to Skyline Park

Nice and easy, rides well. As we were walking around, we saw a tarzan swing which Dave gave a go.

Nice and fun, took Bec and Dave by surprise the brakes. Right next door was a powered bobsled. Fairly slow really.

We were kinda on the wrong side of the park for our next coaster. We had a choice of Sky Spin, Sky Wheel and Butterfly. But we had already planned the 3rd coaster of the day HAD to be the Butterfly. This was Dave & Bec's first Butterfly.

Yup her 150th coaster. We kinda forced her to make that her 150th coaster. Now to head to the other end of the park for Sky Wheel.
10372032_10152496508712780_6147221016738363249_n.jpg

We rode it, and we think it was the first ride, and kept valleying back and forth. After this I felt a bit ill. Mainly because I was tired and been up for over 24 hours. Dave and Bec had another ride, so I took some photos.

10380997_10152496527947780_7279753334877323780_n.jpg

Well... You will have to await for Roller Coaster Review Show for that!

We had done all the park by lunch time. So we decided to leave. Grabbed some lunch at a local McDonalds. Then it was off to our next destination....

10178142_10152496528307780_3007375118036062355_n.jpg

Yup Marchenwald. Has one coaster, and a hefty price tag of €13. Bec mentioned to the cashier that we were just there for the coaster. That prompted the cashier to come out and say, if we spend about 15 mins in the park, we can get our money back. So we got a quick couple of rides on their coaster themed around a squrriel.
10406895_10152496528892780_3541653884863497552_n.jpg

It was a Gerstlauer coaster, really good fun, and quite quick. So after a couple of rides, we got out of the park, got our money back, then off to our hotel. Got there, nice spacious room, looked at the maps for our next day. Noticed there was a small mistake. Sorted that out with the sat nav, and found some food (McDonalds again sadly). Then off early to bed, and slept straight away.

Day 2, Launching into the mountains....

Day 2 - Launching into the Mountains

So Day 2 initially saw us going to Bayern Park, about 90 mins from Munich.
10355682_10152501068637780_8045545252327707619_o.jpg

We decided to go to the Butterfly coasters first. The outdoor one was first, plus this one annoyingly spited me last time back in 2011!

10257972_10152501069807780_7859437261476574364_o.jpg

Well +1 for all of us there. Then it was onto the indoor one, wasn't quite open yet. Time to find the next smallest coaster in the park. After a bit of faff, we found it.
10359078_10152501070167780_8521956976698111731_o.jpg

Was hard to tell if anything was open as we got there at 9am (on opening) and there was no one there! After waiting a few minutes, we decided to wander off and come back later. The 2 main coasters would not open till a bit later. So more wandering around amersly, we managed to find their new ride was open.

1899980_10152501071337780_6540419722982389539_n.jpg

This was a little indoor drop tower that spun. Really well themed inside, and a great addition to the park. Now back up to the other butterfly (which I didn't ride as I rode it before)
10269083_10152501071977780_1571045547359653791_o.jpg

All a little space themed inside a castle...

10333824_10152501073947780_3747915806779385599_o.jpg

Dave decided to ride on this thing.
1502351_10152501074662780_4377198952411515688_o.jpg

Very quick swings too. All these rides were self operated! We managed to get a ride on the other small coaster before heading onto their old main coaster.
10380733_10152501075512780_6582256615698170464_o.jpg

Exact same layout as Green Scream at Adventure Island, but all round fun. Since we were waiting for the next coaster to open, we rode on the dingys.

10368917_10152501079737780_6913914482271227939_o.jpg

Nice and easy attraction.

This proves how dead the park was at the time...
10380561_10152501083937780_8944857680996157905_o.jpg

We decided to goto the other end of the park to waste some time. And decided on riding a small boat tour ride.
10365446_10152501084187780_3556377410082516174_o.jpg

Was ok. The other reason to go other here was the bobsled.
10403826_10152501084472780_8404807598714718878_o.jpg

Long ol' lift hill, and no brakes applied. Will be posting a video of it soon enough!

Now to hang around for the main reason why we were here.
10380609_10152501084617780_4176789127565944235_o.jpg

Yup, the coaster that did not open for me on my first visit, Freischütz
10321175_10152501086027780_2808826685142400077_o.jpg

This point the memory card in my GoPro started playing up, luckily I had a spare one, and filmed. And what did I think of this... Well you will have to wait for Roller Coaster Review Show for that!

We got a few rides on it. And since we got everything done, we decided to head off. It was an hours drive to our next destination. But granted us some spectacular views (which I got no photos of). All we could hear from the back of the car was click click click of a camera. Bec took an obscene amount of photos! However we reached our next park...

10257476_10152501089212780_75180482369352242_o.jpg

No one told us there was going to be a killer hill to get up there!
10258190_10152501089437780_4689651210933732596_o.jpg

Car park is down there somewhere.
10382589_10152501090022780_4997608452690856906_o.jpg

And a nice little entrance..
10338595_10152501090357780_8313313990285138890_o.jpg

And a giant just inside.
10246508_10152501090602780_5919885720978689214_n.jpg

After a lot of walking around, we found a ball rolling game... FOR FREE. You didn't win any prizes, but competed with your friends to get the best time. Great fun. Now we went to find our main reason, the coaster. Eventually found it, but operates on a rotation with the other ride.

We dubbed it the sheep coaster, but it's actual name is Gipfelstürmer. It is a unique Gerstlauer Shuttle coaster. Was very forceful and very good fun.

We stumbled across a little cross country ski shooting thing where you had to shoot all your targets quickly and get your little man to move forward. A lot of fun.
10373031_10152501096302780_2671541308720747679_o.jpg

After several goes, and getting our times well under the 10 seconds. It was time to head to our last park. About an hour away, across the border to Familienland Erlebnispark in Austria. It was a eventful journey, with a big diversion to our route too! But we got to the park too late, the coaster was closed! But Dave turned on the charm offensive and managed to get lady on the cash desk to get a couple of guys to open it just for us and get us a couple of rides. All for just €6 (Entrance is €13). Managed to get a POV of it too.

We got soo lucky with that. Great little ride too, and they explained they are installing a little splash down for it at the moment. Thank you soo much to that lady at the cash desk. Now it was back to our hotel for the night in Munich before day 3 started.

Up next: Lego and the crazy Monkeys!

Great trip report so far! I'm thinking of doing a similiar one next summer, when I'd finally get my driving license.

We stumbled across a little cross country ski shooting thing where you had to shoot all your targets quickly and get your little man to move forward. A lot of fun.

That sport is called biathlon. The game is probably there because Ruhpolding is one of the most notable biathlon venues in the World Cup.

Yeah, Biathalon, wasn't thinking at the time!
