Everyone has been saying from the beginning that the reason Universal are being bitter is the loss of business to City Walk area. It will actually take custom from there though - if you're not staying on Universal property you don't bother with City Walk, it's a ball ache to get to/from on foot and taxis are a faff. If you have an accessible area of bars, eateries and even clubs (actual clubs not the :emoji_zipper_mouth: you find at City Walk) then you'd obviously go there, as would I.

I don't fully get the argument though. Aren't most places at City Walk just chains? Surely Universal just claim the rent rather than run the places. I guess they probably take a cut of the profits as well, but I don't see how, even if business slightly drops, they'll lose all that much.

Unless they're worried that Bubba Gumps will relocate or something?

    They're just being dicks really.

It's more the last sentence of what you've said.

When it comes to City Walk, yeah, a lot of them are licensed premises that will pay ground rent, but there's been a big trend within the last few years of Universal creating their own eateries, drinking spots and night clubs.

They also spat their dummy out over the 'height restriction they face', which is in a different zoning area, so :emoji_zipper_mouth: stupid of them.

It was evident in the public consultation that they were clutching at straws and bringing anything in to stop it happening, including, traffic, drainage and the locals.

    1) Traffic in that area is :emoji_zipper_mouth: at the best of times, not to mention that the Orlando Eye didn't have this uproar from Universal so that goes out of the window.
    2) Why the :emoji_zipper_mouth: would Universal give a :emoji_zipper_mouth: about drainage of another area? They clearly brought this up to stir :emoji_zipper_mouth: and fully knowing they didn't have a leg to stand on with it.
    3) The locals are actually in FAVOUR of constructing this attraction, mainly due to it bringing in more business to the smaller local shops etc. around that area, plus it bringing a vast amount of jobs through ways of construction, shops, ride attendants etc.

They really are just acting like the spoiled child of Orlando at the moment.

Glad the county commissioners were able to see past the politics of the project - so long as the FAA gave a check off on the height of the project, and there are no clear red flags with the project, it would have been very difficult for the commissioners to cite a reason to reject the project.

^ At this point, it is only I-Drive Orlando's game to lose now.

So who wants to wager on how many more ride renderings are released? We are on iteration 4 now, do we go to 5? 7?

Honestly, I'm guessing at least 1 more rendering. No more than 7, though.

Maybe London could get one of these one day. Its not like there's height restrictions in the centre. However, and I'm sure all the Brits will agree, it would be like £20 per ride because London.

Re: I-Drive Orlando | Skyscraper| US Thrill Rides

Did universal protest against the Orlando eye complex for potentially keeping people up the other end of I-drive in the evenings or not (I assume it's open on the evenings)? I know this is more direct competition but still. I bet merlin are not fans of this project either, pity they couldn't have come up with it for their own plot!

So how many years til this is supposedly finished? 5? 10?

Take your bets now, which will be ready first, this or paramount London! Haha (this??)

The Eye and USF were somewhat related at one time (The Eye would have been in planning when Uni was still with Blackstone (Merlin, who operates the wheel today))... And the 4D movie you have to watch before going on the wheel, even has a flyover of USF/IOA and I think it even had Hulk POV.

Definitely betting on this! I highly doubt Paramount London will happen. The NIMBY ('Not In My Backyard') culture here is far too strong and overpowering. If it does happen, I won't be expecting any thrill coasters #pessimistic

I think the main reason they would be opposed to it is because they are pretty much certain to buy a huge parcel of land right near it.

This is big enough to fit a third park, City walk 2 and multiple hotels.

The largest bit of land is big enough alone to fit 3.5 USF in it

Universal, as well as several other major business, have been looking into that land for years apparently. All the Skyplex getting approved has done is give Universal a better reason to buy it.

Atlantic City | unknown | ThrillCorp

    http://www.nj.com/entertainment/ind...oller_coaster_approved_for_atlantic_city.html

So Atlantic City will get a Polercoaster. It will be much smaller, only 350 feet tall, but still looks great. It also will only have the coaster and drop tower, so no observation deck on top. However, there seems to be a nightlife/bar at the base of the tower.

Hopefully we can get at least some more renderings or a POV soon, as we don't have much info. However, we do know that the track will be black.

The Aquatrax joke has needed a worthy successor for a while now. I believe we've found it. Feel free to post "Polercoaster!" in every thread at the least mention of markers on site from now on.

Is there any Polercoaster currently operating or they are all under construction/planning?

Re: Atlantic City | unknown | US Thrill Rides Polercoaster

There aren't even any under construction, and there are serious doubts by senior members of this site that they will happen at all.

(Or is it just for the Skyscraper in Orlando that members tend to think it won't happen at all? The Wikipedia page says that construction is due to start in 2015, which is an amusing comment to read this evening.)

I really like the concept, and AC is within driving distance, so I'll be hopeful no matter how skeptical.

I wouldn't base a project's authenticity or worthiness based off of 'doubts by senior members', most are pessimistic bastards ;)
