Luna Park at Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY announced on Thursday that they will be offering free rides to everyone who visits the park when the temperatures reach 100 degrees or more this summer. The free rides are for any of the Zamperla attractions at Luna Park or the adjacent Scream Zone park and are valid for one hour.
Today's record setting heat that soared to 102 degrees in some New York City suburbs, didn't quite reach the mark in Coney Island where it peaked at 96 degrees due to the beach location.
The announcement was also overshadowed by the tragic shootings that took place on the Brighton Beach boardwalk just east of Coney Island, where one woman was killed, a man critically injured & three other men were sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Just about sums up that entire area.
