LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Officials with Kentucky Kingdom say a popular water ride is closed after an incident at the park Saturday evening.

The Mile High Falls, a shoot-the-chute water ride, was carrying 13 people at the time of the incident.

Officials say the ride descended its drop and proceeded to enter the water-filled trough which guides it into the station, the boat hit the side of the trough. Officials say the boat became lodged on the trough wall.

Kentucky Kingdom says passengers were evacuated from the ride by personnel within 10 minutes of the incident.

Workers at the park began trying to shift the stuck boat moments later.

Five of the passengers were checked out by the amusement park’s Health Services. They say one person declined treatment while two others were treated for minor injuries. Two others were taken to the hospital at their request for further observation.

Officials say they have contacted the state ride inspectors and along with their technical staff, they will investigate the incident.

The ride is expected to be closed until the investigation is complete.

Believe what you will from the article, but these things happen and that sounds like an excellent response from the park. Quick to get the guests off, efficient treatment and immediate contact with the authorities.

Hopefully they're able to get the ride up and running soon.

It's actually not a serious issue, Port Aventura had this issue with their Shute the chute ride and it opened up again on the next day. (correct me if I'm wrong)

The one at PA could have been much worse too, due to the two boats colliding and the people in/around the trough. Begs the question as to why the E-stop wasn't pressed...?

Thankfully looks like there was only one boat involved at Kentucky Kingdom though.
