How many current and former world record holders have you ridden?

Hi guys. Sorry if there is already a thread like this, but I made this thread to discuss how many current and former world record holding coasters we've each ridden. I'll get the ball rolling with mine:
  1. The Smiler at Alton Towers (Most inversions - Current)
  2. Colossus at Thorpe Park (Most inversions - Former)
  3. Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (Tallest and possibly steepest - Former)
  4. Oblivion at Alton Towers (Steepest - Former)
And there are a couple that I could potentially claim dependant on whether tied record holders count:
  1. Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa (Tied for most inversions - Former)
  2. Speed at Oakwood (Tied for steepest - Former)
Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, but I'll tell you guys if I think of any more. I have also ridden Everest, which claims the title of world's most expensive coaster, but I'm not sure if that counts.

So, what current and former world record holders have you guys ridden?

I think this is all of them, an odd list really
  1. Lightning Rod
  2. Outlaw Run (most inversions on a wooden coaster)
  3. El Toro
  4. Kumba (tied for inversions)
  5. Millennium Force
  6. Beast
  7. Top Thrill Dragster
  8. Magnum
  9. Kingda Ka
  10. Dragon Khan
  11. Matterhorn Bobsleds
  12. Screamin' Eagle
  13. Vortex, KI
  14. Boss SFSL (fastest in 2000)
  15. Superman SFMM
  16. Viper (tied for inversions)
  17. Colossus
  18. Corkscrew, Cedar Point

Oh my word, now you're asking. This is one of those moments where some sort of spreadsheet might come in handy.
Off the top of the head, then.
Current height record, Kingda Ka.
Former height records, TTD, Millie, Big'un', Magnum XL, Gemini?
Former speed records. KK, TTD, Beast?
Former length record. T'Ultimate.
Wooden length & speed record. Beast?
Current inversion record. The Smiler.
Former inversion records. Colossus, Dragon Khan, Kumba, Viper, Vortex, Corkscrew.
Wooden inversion record. Outlaw Run.
Former steepest. Oblivion.
Former steepest wood. El Toro?

Plus of course Steel Vengeance, which has something like 10 different hybrid world records.

I can't help thinking that I've ridden loads more former world record holders that Ive missed. Might update this when somebody more knowledgeable and goony than me posts a more definitive list. ;)

Just going to be that guy to point out the typo; Smiler opened in 2013

Kumba never really held a record for inversions.... Unless you're going to count *every* 7 inversion coaster built between 1988 and 1995
So like... Shockwave, Scream Machine, Viper, Goudurix, annddd Kumba, lastly haha. Although you could go and say Kumba had the largest/tallest loop (but not the highest loop,)

Good man @davidm, saved us all a bit of work there!

Screamin' Eagle (1976-1978)
Cyclone (1927-1976)

  • Longest
Steel Dragon 2000 (2000-)
Daidarasaurus (1999-2000)
Ultimate (1991-1999)

Viper - Darien (1982-1987)

Not bad, really. I'd only need a few of the Asian monsters to have almost all the ones I can actually ride, I think.

Nice idea for a thread. :)

I saw this topic yesterday, and couldn't be f**ked to work stuff out, so thanks for doing the work davidm. I'll do the same thing then. Underlined if ridden when they held the record, italics if I've not done it.

Something I've noticed though is that the Cyclone listing should refer to the coaster at Revere Beach, not Coney Island, which closed in 1969, so that needs claryfying for some of your filthy liars claiming to have ridden it.

  • Tallest (Full circuit)
Kingda Ka (2005-)
Top Thrill Dragster (2003-2005)
Steel Dragon 2000 (2000-2003)
Millennium Force (2000-2000)
Fujiyama (1996-2000)
Big One (1994-1996)
Magnum XL-200 (1989-1994)
Dragon Mountain (1983-1989)
Loch Ness Monster (1978-1983)
Shock Wave (1978-1978)
Revolution (1976-1978)
Montaña Rusa (1964-1975)
Cyclone (1927-1974)

  • Fastest
Formula Rossa (2010-)
Kingda Ka (2005-2010)
Top Thrill Dragster (2003-2005)
Dodonpa (2001-2003)
Superman the Escape/Tower of Terror (1997-2001)
Fujiyama (1996-1997)
Steel Phantom (1991-1996)
Magnum XL-200 (1989-1991)
Bandit (1988-1989)
American Eagle (1981-1988)
The Beast (1979-1981)
Colossus (1978-1979)
Screamin' Eagle (1976-1978)
Cyclone (1927-1976)

  • Longest
Steel Dragon 2000 (2000-)
Daidarasaurus (1999-2000)
Ultimate (1991-1999)
The Beast (1979-1991)
Colossus (1978-1979)

  • Upsidedown-est
Smiler (2013-)
Colossus (2002-2013)
Dragon Khan (1995-2002)
Viper - SFMM (1990-1995)
Vortex (1987-1990)
Viper - Darien (1982-1987)
Demon (1976-1982)
Corkscrew? (1975-1976)

The glaring ommission is clearly Smiler, but I've got mostly everything else. I should've got Dragon Mountain, but ended up not doing Marineland due to lack of time and crap weather, and I can't say I'm bothered about not having the crappy Arrow looper from Darien Lake.

Ahh, I did wonder that and couldn't be arsed to do the research myself. Amended mine now. :)

Ha ha - slack Wikipedia skills on my behalf....

...but you are only 1/2 right ; the "tallest Cyclone" was Reveve Beach , the "fastest Cyclone" was Coney - that explains my confusion! ;)

Thanks for the list @davidm!
I don't have too many, tbf. Out of the current record holders, only Formula Rossa (Fastest) and Smiler (most inversions).
As for the others...
  • Tallest (Full circuit)
Big One (1994-1996)
Revolution (1976-1978)

  • Fastest
Formula Rossa (2010-)
Superman the Escape/Tower of Terror (1997-2001)
Colossus (1978-1979)
  • Longest
Colossus (1978-1979)
  • Upsidedown-est (lots of duplicates here, just tried to spot the first one with the relevant number)
Smiler (2013-)
Colossus (2002-2013)
Dragon Khan (1995-2002)
Viper - SFMM (1990-1995)

Btw, should Dragon Mountain and Revolution really be deemed as tallest coasters of their time? The heights listed on rcdb are mostly just height differentials between the highest and lowest point of the ride, while the coasters mostly stay fairly close to the terrain...
