Ethan's Dev Topic - Stuff and things

Ok I had to scrap my B&M Hyper because I wasn't that pleased with the layout and the general theme of it. So I thought I would begin another coaster, but a completely different one. As you can see it's heavily inspired by Verbolten. I haven't done much yet, but you can get the gist of what it will be like. I will probably make a custom station at the end too.

The straight track from the station...

The first corner, taken at a low speed...

A POV shot of the second corner, after an inclined straight section (just like Verbolten's beginning)...

Overview of this section, including terrain...

This is how far above ground the second corner is (as seem above)...

After the second corner is an uphill launch, 45mph, but slows down near the crest (this is a family coaster)...

The launch track! Acceleration = 2.5g...

The first major drop...

The high speed corner after the drop (you can see the peak at the top of the picture)...

Then a fast change of direction back up the hillside...

The final turn (so far)...

I cannot wait to finish this. Please comment on what you think, and check for updates if you want! :)
Oh, and obviously this is only the beginning so don't complain about it's length just yet...

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [Intamin Terrain Coaster]

Oh, I've built something similar last week, although mine looks more like a family coaster

PS: How do you shoot screen-shots outside the ride?

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [Intamin Terrain Coaster]

^You need to go into "Fly" mode, I think it's by pressing 'Q' in the Sim. :D

Looking good Ethan, will be interesting to see where you take this next.

Yes you can use Q as Hixee said or press E, which gives you a camera similar to a walk mode. Also, how do you change the title of a topic is you need to?

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [Intamin Terrain Coaster]

Ah yeah, E gets you into a better mode for that, my mistake.

If you want to change the title of the topic, just edit the first post. :D

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [MAMMOTH Update 31/3/12]

Update - I has worked some more on the layout in Newton. I have supported all of it so far, and have reached the first brake section. The layout still hugs the terrain as does the start of the coaster. There are also some near misses with trees and other parts of the coaster. Enjoy!

This is the turn where the last update ended...
qDHFN.jpg

This leads into another quick direction change, on which I used Newtons 'Sextic' roll transition...
wP0Ri.jpg

Another high speed turn which comes off the last element as seen above...
qht2I.jpg

After that comes this strange overbanked element which is silky smooth and pulls some nice negative Gs...

The exit of the overbank thing...

A downhill S-bend leading out from the previous element...

A quick snap upwards...

And we're into the first set of brakes...

Oh, and this is what the new part of the layout looks like from above...

EDIT - I have thought of a backstory which explains the name of this coaster!

I will add CS and support flanges once the layout is finished... which will be a while!
Thanks for reading, and again please feel free to comment and criticise... :)

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [Kigahara - Intamin Ground Hug

You need far more supports on the track than you have put up. Don't forget, since it's a bi-rail track, and it doesn't have a spine to aid with supporting, ALL of the support comes from the supports themselves, whereas with a spine style track, you're getting something like 20:80 track to support ratios.

Ok i'll add them, but what about the shaping?

I love the look of the coaster, but some of your supporting is a bit haphazard. Look at the support in the bottom left of the first photo in the last update you posted; it should be perpendicular to the track whereas yours is wonky.

Oh yeah I see what you mean. Well I have now fixed this issue and have almost doubled the number of supports on the coaster for added realism, as Xpress suggested. I will post photos later tonight.

Re: Ethan's Development Topic [Kigahara - Intamin Ground Hug

I know double posts are annoying, but...

UPDATE:

I have added loads more supports to the layout, and it looks a lot better now. I have also tweaks the existing ones as suggested. However I haven't added anymore trackwork as of yet, mostly because I have a Physics exam tomorrow :/

So here is another shot from the editor showing the extra supports...

There is quite a big difference when riding in the sim now, and that also means more headchoppers, so yay for that.

Ok, now about the name...
KPTnp.jpg

Aokigahara, sometimes know as the Sea of Trees, is a large forest at the base of Mt Fuji, Japan. It is famous for it's title as the 'second most popular suicide location', behind the Golden Gate Bridge. The forest is eerily quiet, as the density of the trees blocks out any wind which dares to enter. On average, 100 bodies are found in the woods, despite numerous signs spread around the area urging people to reconsider their actions.

Basically the story I had in mind is about a contraption (the coaster's train), which people ride that weaves through the forest in search of missing persons. And although following the tracks from the previous search (the coaster track), you get lost in the haunted forest and have to escape.

Nothing much but I thought it might be fun.

I do like this. I've attempted a few times a 'Verbolten/Thirteen' style coaster, but I lose inspiration.

It looks good though, and I like the name and story actually.

If your stuck for ideas, try heading back to the station! That's what I do when out of ideas.

^Well yeah but how, that's what i'm stuck with. I can't just do a lift back up the hill, it would ruin it :(

Re: Ethan's Dev Topic - Kigahara

Finally, I have actually finished the layout of this coaster. All thats left to do is the station building, plus any extra details anybody may suggest. Anyway, here it is!

This is the brake run where I left off...

h8K2w.jpg

At slow speeds, the train enters this tight curve to the right...

Oanit.jpg

The corner follows the hill downwards...

fu8fp.jpg

Then comes another smooth corner in the same direction...

sE798.jpg

As you exit this corner, you enter a 48mph launch!

de1BI.jpg

And into the airtime hill finale...

DpzHx.jpg

Soaring over the trees on the hill...

XkWQo.jpg

The exit of the hill into the final helix over the lake...

6wAkL.jpg

Such elegance...

nrUp5.jpg

And into the final brakes back at the top of the forest...

bkbsH.jpg

The final turn into the non-existant station...

The colours are set to change, as well as the car texture. Hope you like it, please comment and critisize!
