Drayton Manor: Shockwave's last season

Well we have all heard in the rumor mill that Shockwave will be replaced for 2010.
Does anyone think it will happen?
Will it just be re-profiled with new trains possibly?

It is still the only standup in Europe, surely if they sold it someone else would snap it up to market it that?
Would they be silly enough to remove it?
Or clever enough which ever way you see it?

I dunno about that, but I sure as hell know that this topic title is misleading.

I opened it expecting some sort of official announcement.

Its a pile of rubbish lets hope it gets replaced with something with more than 1 train.

Everytime I've been there has been 2 :? or are you talking about G-force?

^You must be lucky/unlucky, and go on busy days.

They don't often run two trains though.

And haven't the last 4 or 5 seasons been "its last"?

I only had to wait 20 minutes to go on it with 2 trains running, and with G-force it was 3 hours with 1 train running

I quite like Shockwave, I also happen to like G-force.

As Ben said, every year for the past few years it's been it's last season.
Although, it is getting closer to it's removal...

They did not even have 2 trains last year, I heard the 2nd train was sold for spares or something like that.

And yes I am talking about Shockwave after all its the Shockwave topic :)

We queued over an hour I think, yes it was a busy day.

Why don't they just scrap that pile of **** and buy a new B&M Stand-Up. Even if they replaced the same layout is would be better than it is at the moment.

I certainly would be an interesting project.

As long as I don't have to endure the awful shack for a queue area then I'm hppy enough to see it go, if thats what the are planning to do.

Good coaster for taking photos of, but way too short and painful.

I doubt it's going anywhere. It was built in the same year as Nemesis, and thats not going anywhere, so why should this? It's not deteriorating badly, it's still working and it still pulls a good crowd. So why get rid of a ride thats still working fine?

Makes no sense and it seems like a load of crap created by some DMP geek.

I actually quite liked Shockwave but when I went the park wasn't very busy and was walk on for a while.

If they were to get rid of it then it would have to be a worthwhile replacement, I hope they keep it, its the best ride there and the gimmicks still a good one. Also the Zero-G is awesome.

Is there anything to say it will be going yet? Not just some rumor of it going?

Yes it will be sad to see it go, and the only reason I didn't go on it last time is due to the crappy long queue in the shed!

Erol: Different coasters age differently, you should know that too. When I went on G-Force in its opening season, I rated it quite highly, but last year it was rough as hell! But with Shockwave is the long loading times due to the restraints, and thats why we don't see many Stand-up coasters anymore. And with Shocker, it slams into the brake run and suddenly stops, so the train is tearing apart really. Do that a few hundred times a day over a long period, it is bound to break, and if its broken beyond repair, time to get rid of it.

What you mean Shockwave will only last 14 or 15 years and its got to go?
Don't think so.... It's a solid coaster, built in a very similar way to B&M standups.

Shockwave is a decent ride, and for this country a very good one. If this ever goes I can guarentee we will never see another one in the UK. Even though it's rough as an old mans stubble, the layout is as dull as a cheese sandwich and the drop is as shallow as the great barrier reef; I love Shockwave! C'mon it's a million times better than that red piece of crap neighbouring it...

Few points: people who are saying it didnt have 2 train last year - it ran 2 on every time i went and i went a good number of times.

Also as far as im aware its the buffalo thats going next and being replaced with another coaster - shockwave still has another good few years left in it.

and your source - Colin Bryan the MD of Drayton Manor

BM wont do the same layout as it contains a Zero G Roll which BM NEVER do on their stand ups.

Also Drayton aren't exactly rolling in it. So i don't think there will be another coaster until Shockwave is in a state of no return.

I doubt Shockwave will go. Reasons?

Shockwave is Europe's only stand-up coaster. Sure, that isn't a good thing, but it's a marketable thing. It brings in peeps, or rather, prevents them from not coming. If Shockwave left, that's another reason for peeps not to go to Drayton Manor.

Some people say it's going to be replaced by something better. Like what exactly? If you take note of Shockwave's space it isn't really that great, it's all 'in the air'. In a recession, competing with Alton's 2010 project, I don't think it's in Drayton's mind to attack any financial risks right now.

My verdict is, just as it has been over the years (like Ben said immediately), that this coaster shall be at Drayton Manor for a long time.
