The circuit is complete!
Double post, but Blackpool Gazette livestreamed the whole thing:-
Spoiler: Trigger Warning
Hard to believe that's a genuine comment...
That's far from the worst...
Put your hand up if you hate the GP.
Here's ICON being featured on BBC News, including an interview with Amanda Thompson:
I'm glad they are pushing the interactions as a selling point rather than speed/intensity. Even though the presenter at the beginning had to say the obligatory "as much g force as a race car" line
^^ Scott on TV there!
And some graffiti on the ride already;
Well, they can't exactly push speed or height considering one of the coasters it interacts with is faster and taller...
You can hear from the Thompson's and BPB's techincal director on the subject of Icon here;
Ah she's so passionate - I love it! That's what you need from an owner.
She's excited because the sooner the track is done the sooner she can start work on the fountain
So according to an onsite engineer, Icon will actually reach a top speed of 85kph at the end of the second launch. The current 80kph statistic is the minimum speed needed to crest the (sort of) Immelmann to prevent a rollback.
Go to 1:00 in the video.
He actually said 85km/h is the 'maximum speed on launch 2'. Not sure if this means it will reach that though?...
Anyone know more about this? I haven't heard of launched coasters varying between speeds tbh.
I'm pretty sure LSMs are adjustable depending on weather conditions etc, so yeah 85km/h is probably just the maximum it will go when the conditions mean it's more likely to valley.
"We've got to put all the theming in"
It's something like 80kph on Launch 1, 85kph on Launch 2. I'm sure they can go faster than that if they ever needed to though.
Nick Thompson has seen too many Carlsberg adverts, “this is probably the best rollercoaster in the world”.
Nick has clearly had one too many shandies
I am clinging onto the hope that Mandy kits it out a bit though. A giant wicker middle finger would suit me.
Does The Wicker Finger or The Finger Man sound better?
