I may have missed this but do we have a highest to lowest point in ft? The elevation looks quite steep although not as dramatic as Nemesis.

What makes Nemesis so special is the pacing and accelerating throughout the first half of the layout, hopefully this will have similar pace constantly generating speed throughout the first half. A normal chain lift hill will actually be better for this as you will get the gradual acceleration throughout rather than a burst.

This pic from the page before really makes it look like theres at least 80ft+ from the track at the bottom of the site to the top of the lift, especially looking at the size of the builders infront of the part where it changes gradient.

Not seen it in person though so...

So a while back I explained that SW8's 'Wickerman' theme might be a decoy. And recently more evidence has risen to support that...

Someone on TTSP, bearing in mind the theming structure might be a dragon, has found out about the Myaminyami and I had also found some interesting information from Wikipedia regarding the Myaminyami.

Heavy earth-moving equipment roared into the valley and tore out thousands of hundred-year-old trees to build roads and settlements to house the workers who poured into the area to build a dam that would harness the powerful river. The BaTonga’s peace and solitude was shattered and they were told to leave their homes and move away from the river to avoid the flood that the dam would cause.

By the way, a Myaminyami is an African Dragon thing and people think SW8 will be in Katanga Canyon...

So what do you lot think?

Just whacked a few lines over to highlight the distance from the lift hill crest to the very bottom of the lift. You can compare the vertical line to the builder on the roof for some perspective.

You know I was being really sarcastic when I jokingly suggested the theme was a dragon, and then someone posted that gorgeous shipping container?

You've gotta be kidding me? Where do I start...

A dragon? Nah.

Myaminyami is not marketable and easy to spell incorrectly, creating a weak brand.

The Wicker Man concept came from much higher up than just an internet forum and user - so it's still the most likely of themes.

Yeah I know, I was going to mention that but couldn't be bothered to find the quote at the time.

A Wicker Man theme is still plausible but I think since The Smiler and I think there are many ways of the media can make the park look bad through using that theme, This Myaminyami theme seems more plausible, However no-one outside Merlin knows the theme until an announcement.

Considering all the other dark related coaster themes at Merlin parks besides The Smiler (Nemesis, Thirteen, Oblivion, The Swarm, SAW etc), I think I'd consider The Wicker Man to be a safe choice ;)

The British public as a whole aren't the most intelligent of people; there's not a chance that Alton would go for a branding decision based around a theme that most visitors couldn't even spell, let alone pronounce.

That's a great sign. Universal Rocks do some stunning work. I really look forward to seeing their work in this project and what they're up to.

That's really not true, though. People do know as they have good contacts within the Merlin company, not just the guy who picks litter up at the entrance of Towers - but people who are actually substantial within the core of the creative arm of Merlin.

Also. UNIVERAL ROCKS <3

Not to mention all of the contractors and specialists who are building the bloody thing. ;)

I do not understand the lift hill in the slightest. And by that I mean that I understand the park's height restriction, but seeing a lift so shallow but also one that changes steepness is just so bizarre.

With Nemesis, Alton Towers were quite creative with their restrictions. So, I hope they have something in mind to justify the unusual lifthill. I mean, I hope they make it a theme point.

It has to go steeply at first in order to get enough height above the brakerun track, but if it carried on at that angle, it would get too tall too quickly, hense the change.
