But why would they want to bring back the bad publicity of when the ride "broke down" and stranded the helpless guests for hours upon end?

Because any publicity is good publicity? XD

But in reality, no idea. Such a totally random thing?

Announcement of the new name for Turbine in 2 weeks! Please don't let there be 'Speed' or 'Sound' in the new name!

Walibi Belgium opened yesterday and of course, there are more pictures from Turbine! The construction of the two tubes that will enclose the spikes at each side of the building will begin next week. I have also heard rumors that some of the special effects during the ride will be fire/fireworks. The new name will be revealed somewhere in April! Opening mid June!

Strange, but they look like they'll fit the quirky theme that Walibi are going for. They look like they could be Rock 'n' Rollercoaster-esque.

I'm very happy the park has decided to keep the coaster as it gave me loads of memories back of "Thunderlooper" at AT in the 90's when I rode it a few years ago.

And finally they started with the construction of the tunnels that will cover the outside track.
Next week the park will announce everything we need to know about the new Turbine!

A big day in Belgian themeparkhistory. Today is the day Walibi Belgium revealed the name of Turbine, the Schwarzkopf Shuttle Looper that closed in 2008. Starting from the second week of June, the legendary rollercoaster is back. Turbine becomes Psyké Underground!

psund.png

Everybody already knows the history of Psyké Underground, which opened in 1982 and was the first launched rollercoaster in Europe, under the name Sirocco. A freak accident on August 27th 1997 caused the ride to be enclosed and live on under the name Turbine. Turbine had it's last ride in November 2008.

From Sirocco to Psyké Underground

Underneath, a small documentary about the history of Psyké Underground:

Discover Shimmeria with Psyké Underground
The enviroment and zone around the coaster will become 'Fabulous', a city in the world of Shimmeria. This colorfull town beholds many shops, a hotel and ticketboxes for the underground and a factory that produces fireworks. This little city becomes the entrance to this new ride. The whole project behind Turbine had a 6.000.000 EUR budget.

The story behind Psyké Underground

The Psyké Underground is located in a little village at Shimmeria, named Fabulous. From the outside, people can see some shops, a disco, a factory that produces firworks (Pyro Technics Inc.) and a ticketbox for the local underground.

You are hosted by the famous 300-year old pink dragon, Vita Drakovitz, and her little waterspraying creatures to have a guided tour around the village. But instead of that, visitors are merged into an old and abandoned underground station that beholds a huge special machine. While waiting, visitors will enjoy a pré-show, to get them into the mood of the new ride.
After that, you can take the train. But once you get in this train, there is no way out. And when one of those creatures accidentaly pushes the wrong button, the train is launched at 85 kmph into complete darkness.

What follows is a wild ride through the dark underworld of Shimmeria. Underway, visitors are exposed to a dark hallway, filled with special effects, illuminated bats along the way, finally facing a huge 3D projected watermonster while hanging upside down in the huge looping!

That's such an RCT botch job of making it "inside"

Still, the rides are good enough fun and it's great they're making such a huge effort for the ride to try and refresh it :)

And... let me guess, on the investment schedule, this is classed as a "brand new ride", thus justifying putting back a new coaster a few more years?

Nemesis of oblivion said:
The building, as hippyish as it is, looks quite good. But those blue tubes look so...industrial. The both don't blend.

I know...however, the base of these tubes should be painted, as you can see on the concept art.

I don't like the industrial look of them either. But this is decided by law, thanks to the locals of Walibi Belgium. Rides that are located at the side of Rue J. Deschamps are not allowed to have bright colors. That's why they will only paint the lower part of the tubes and not any higher.
