I've only just got in from the airport now and am now Back home in Brisbane.
Given the tyranny of distance, I tend to do my coastering in a month long annual binge, and this time around was Germany, the Netherlands, and a tiny little addon to Copenhagen that I had the opportunity to do.

The parks I did were
Skyline Park, Tripsdrill, Europa Park, Holiday Park, Movie Park, Phantasialand, Toverland, Efteling, Drievliet, Duinrell, Walibi Holland, Heide Park, Hansa Park, Karls, Belantis, Bayern Park, Ruhpolding, Bakken, Tivoli, plus fairs in Augsburg, Aachen, Cologne, The Hague, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin.
I also did some indoor water parks (Galaxy Erding, Miramar and Tropical Islands), a brasso alpine coaster, and Minatur Wonderland.

i'm too tired to embark on a trip report just yet, but to get started, this is what I got:

The trip begins of course with 22 hours of flying from Brisbane to Munich on Etihad, with a very quick 2 hour layover in Abu Dhabi

Straight off the flight and from the airport, I didn’t jump on a train to the central city as you’d expect, but rather got on a local bus and went to Galaxy Erding, which is a huge indoor spa, sauna and water park complex north east of Munich.

29598061_10155227943421105_5653946823826898317_n.jpg

It had a few cool slides, in no particular order.

29683513_10155227943586105_8536884057046823690_n.jpg

-High Fly

A small dip that finished mid air, and then you landed on a huge sloping flexible piece of plastic, so it was like going off a ski jump. I managed to whack my head coming down the initial mini slide, but the landing was surprisingly soft.

-Magic Eye

Basically a big long enclosed slide with an oval cross section and daylight ring effects, so it felt like you were travelling through a wormhole or something.

Loved this one, it went on forever, and you could ride in large groups with no real spacing between the rafts, so it was always a walk on.
29594566_10155227943871105_9076292746585730740_n.jpg

-Wild River
This was like an normal body slide, except the water flow was about a foot deep rather than the usual thin stream, and it had a couple of weirs along the way you’d heave yourself over, onto steeper downhill sections. It was quite cool the way the flow would just sort of drag you down the slide, and you could freely spin yourself around, go headfirst etc.

-Black Mamba
It was just a black and white striped enclosed body slide, with some funky lights along the way. Waited a while and it seemed popular. Good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

-Speed Racer
A couple of body slides with mirrored layouts, and you’d race against someone. What made it interesting was that the slides were made of stainless steel, so very slick and you could build up a lot of speed.

Deploying some riding positions designed for speed, i managed one of the best times of the day.
29597655_10155227943766105_7101366017532675181_n.jpg

-Space Bowl
So this was one of those body slide toilet bowls, but instead of dropping out a hole in the middle and landing in a deep pool, it was configured more like a raft slide version, with a little spiral chute in the middle that kind of guides riders out and down.

I held a rigid riding position and got a couple of laps, but rookie mistake, i maintained that position as i was sucked towards the middle and ended up coat hangering myself either side of the little fibreglass wall that is supposed to guide you down into the exit chute.

Ouch, once was enough.

-Space Gilder
Another stainless steel slide, but this one was a raft slide, with a couple of “master blaster” type uphill sections. The slide was fun, and lengthy in its normal form, but what made this interesting was the option to ride with VR. The headset was more like a diving mask, but the system worked really well, even knowing if you had spun around by accident. The media was like a space theme dodging asteroids and so forth, with the master blaster sections being like going through a warp gate.

-Kamikaze
Standard freefall slide. Yay.

-Extreme Faser
So this one was an enclosed slide that was just one big sweeping turn at a considerable gradient, so you’d pick up speed, and it would all just become a blur with heaps of water in your face. Can’t say it was the most enjoyable thing!

-Open Space
Just a big slide with gentle dips, a couple of meters wide so several could go at once, and you had space to spin around if you wanted. More for families I guess.

The rest of the slides were for kids
I stayed a couple of hours, and then met up with my parents, who I was travelling with for a few days at the start of my trip.

The next couple of days were spent exploring Munich

Preface, the first few parks of my trip have limited photos because I somehow mucked up and lost the micro SD Card from the first half of my trip, so I have extensive pics from Toverland onwards, but for the other parks, its whatever I happened to put on FB :(

The first proper park was Skyline Park.
29572917_10155235332211105_3458323734534318713_n.jpg

The motivation for going here was a few weird and wonderful ride types. The weather was freezing and people didnt really start turning up till an hour after opening, which meant rides that require multiple riders had a bit of a wait....more on that later.

So I started off with Sky Dragster...As far as powered coasters go, its probably the best...I dont get the hate?
29684099_10155235331206105_1892733471756861596_n.jpg

The launch was actually decent. The turns it naturally slows down a bit. If I were trying to make the most of the ride type, I'd make the twisty sections just very loopy and over the top, somewhat like a polercoaster, since the powered nature of the vehicle means you could have it negotiating some impossible curves that a normal gravity coaster couldnt do.
You got a bit of mild air on the humps as well. Use the boost function here!

11224638_10155235331261105_8973951656835417335_n.jpg

On the touch screen you could change the sound of the vehicle.
So yeah if these are cheap I dont have a problem with smaller parks getting these.

http://instagr.am/p/BhBjvWEHLtu/

Next up I did the bobkart.
Spoiler: This was much better than the one at Toverland, with a very lengthy layout. Again, a fun ride, but then again, if there isn't the feeling that you can flip and crash like on a normal Weigand gravity toboggan, whats the point :p
28378687_10155235331841105_2514261005558972175_n.jpg

The first actual coaster was Nostalgische Achterbahn.
http://instagr.am/p/BhBkJGYneMz/
OK I guess. It was somewhat amusing riding with water bottles in the other three seats though.
29573188_10155235331461105_3440546591316879197_n.jpg

Next up was Sky Spin. These Maurer spinners are always good fun, and this one got a decent bit of rotation happening.
29683865_10155235332021105_7835358403246133784_n.jpg

After that was Sky Rider
3 other randoms were happy enough to ride along with me, but soon regretted it when when we stalled.
The ride is quite boring and sluggish to begin with, and just decided to run out of energy on the 2nd to last turn.
A few minutes later a staff member chucked us a rope (Must be a regular occurence?)
Two people didn't quite have the might to tow us back, so eventually the number became 6, and that was enough to get us moving.
+1, even though it took 15 minutes to complete the circuit.
29594870_10155235331726105_7891009595723568833_n.jpg

http://instagr.am/p/BhBk9WMnJMc/

Sky Wheel followed. I've got one of these locally at Dreamworld so no surprises for me here. I heard that they ran a longer cycle on this one, but not today, with only one full circuit.
29683344_10155235332101105_7339085264368855701_n.jpg

The last remaining coaster was Kids Spin which is one of those SBF three helix spinning coasters. Again, one of these is already in Australia at Adventure Park so a 1 and done.
http://instagr.am/p/BhBtkBrnU_f/ I say that was the last coaster, because I had a go at the Butterfly and there is no way in hell I would count one. It was a piece of glorified play equipment!
29594940_10155235332891105_8496864372737372031_n.jpg

They also had a Nautic Jet, which was very fun, whacking down onto the water and all.
29573283_10155235333011105_7129256168712340588_n.jpg

There was also one of those ABC rapids rides, which had a nifty swivelling vertical lift.
It was best described as being a drier and less turbulent version of the family raft slides seen at many water parks. Im sure those of you who have ridden storm surge know what to expect.
11224425_10155235331566105_6554712363270430783_n.jpg

What else did I do? I wasn't really in the mood for flats, but I hadn't ridden a booster in a while....
29598231_10155235331306105_4411725575955165407_n.jpg

A bit cold at that speed, but still a great, forceful rush.

They did have a huge portable flume set up which was way more elaborate than ones I have seen previously...It even had a backwards drop! The ride was actually off (Presumably to save power) and the guy operating just started it up, so I was treated to about 5 minutes worth of watching water gradually make its way around the circuit.
Thankfully pretty dry though, save for one final drop under another section with low clearance. Some of the splash just 'rebounded' back into the boat.

There was also ferris wheel and a condor, I went on both to get pics, but that was a waste now I guess.

Lunch was currywurst:
29572815_10155235332711105_8636407261318145895_n.jpg

The sausage wasn't gross like I was expecting (I really just got it to try something local) but I was dying from the amount of salt on everything by the end.

After re-rides on Sky Dragster, the last thing I did was the Krinoline, which is supposed to be this.
Except when I rode it just rose up and spun around, and didnt actually do any wave movements.
http://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/products/flat-rides/dancing-pavilion-en-US/

As for the park as a whole. Aside from the rides plonked around. the gentle mounds, pockets of landscaping etc made it feel like one of those big modern parks you see in newer housing developments:
morning-riders.jpg

An OK park, but perhaps lacking in atmosphere.

The day wasn't done yet though! Only about an hour or so south was Neuschwanstein Castle, which was pretty magical in the wintry setting (Even snowing late afternoon!)
29790705_10155235338176105_5362051102558844461_n.jpg

Be prepared for a bit of faff. Basically you have to book for a particular time, be at the ticket office down the bottom a strict 90 mins before your timeslot to collect your tickets, then walk/bus/wagon up to the top, and then finally you get your 30 min tour. The entry is all well organized with clocks and turnstiles because it's Germany
18893014_10155235338031105_3735542073813125208_n.jpg

No pics allowed inside, but the interiors were quite cool, with extensive murals and carvings...It wasn't just grey stonework like in a lot of historical buildings.
29683477_10155235337506105_3969041259531485007_n.jpg

My tip if you go there is that there is there is the pathway to Marienbrucke, but there is another one not much further, a bit further back from the castle, and about 100m down that path is a clear shot with both the bridge and castle
29792244_10155235337601105_5927756521357360677_n.jpg

The nights accommodation was in Augsburg, and I got one extra coaster with the Wilde Maus that was at the Plaerrer.
http://instagr.am/p/BhCnXtenbTm/
I also sampled Schupfnudel...A warm mixture of pasta noodles, sauerkraut and small bacon like bits of pork.
I'd probably get it again if I was at a German festival or something.

I've never been able to summon the motivation to go to Skyline park, I have to admit. I've been in the vicinity a few times, but nothing seems particularly appealing. Although I have just checked C2C and it's a +7! So maybe I do need to go!

Enjoying this so far - look forward to reading more.

Right, so the next park along was Tripsdrill, near Stuttgart.

It had a bit of an Alton vibe on approach in that you drive through a bunch of small villages and backroads and then all of a sudden you are there.
29572223_10155237201881105_6668147991150188731_n.jpg

It's quite a nice park, set on the slopes of a gentle hillside, with loving theming in parts, though the gravel paths at the coaster end of the park were a bit cheap.
(This pic was taken from the Church on the hill that overlooks the park)

It's a very pretty park actually! Good that even small parks in Germany do high quality environments.
29598301_10155237199901105_4849523011425921773_n.jpg

For some reason I started off on the sky fly, and It was gash. As I discovered along the trip, some are really easy to flip, and some are quite stiff, and despite working quite hard at it, I managed only 6 flips when you should be able to get 60. There is a computer screen at the exit showing how many revolutions you made. The queue theming was in typical tripsdrill style, passing through rooms with fabrics and sewing machines, showing the production of a flying suit, which forms the theme of this ride.

Right, onto something more serious, with Karacho
29683469_10155237198426105_8452316467260184797_n.jpg

This was really good. The queue line was in a factory, and themed around a crazy inventors workshop, and the inventor is established as someone who has invented rides for the park previously, because there were drawings and scale models and spare bits from rides. In the middle of the queue is a pit which the launch track passes underneath, but because its dark and covered in mesh, all you really hear is a woosh whenever you launch.
It's a great layout which keeps the blowtorch on right to the end, because the inversions get tighter and snappier, and the short tunnel adds to the fun too.
29683742_10155237199606105_2811903637953500602_n.jpg

The inventor is seen at the exit ramp, vomiting profusely from the effects of his latest invention.

There was a briquette oven themed flat ride as part of the factory themed area they have established:

Next up was Mammut, I really liked this one, ran quite smoothly, but I think nylon wheels help with that. I had no idea that there was an enclosed section before the lift hill, but basically its like a sawmill and the power overloads, with flashing lights and so forth. The layout felt very GCI, but one part I liked was about 2/3 of the way through where you do a bit of an S bend slalom, and its well hidden behind the main structure. The fog filled tunnel right at the end was a highlight too. a

The washtub rapids were next. Wow, this park really does like doing highly themed rides around mundane subject matters. But it was good fun, and even had a couple of unexpected moments of water invading the raft.

There was a good suprise moment in it too (Spoiler) Basically you go up a lift hill onto a turntable, and doors open in front of you suggesting you are going fowards, but instead you reverse suddenly down a drop.
(End spoiler)

The last big coaster was Gstenge Sau (Burnt Pig)
This ride had the theme of sleighs, and has an elaborate full scale indoor diorama where you are looking over a snowy night time forest with sleighs. As the queue progresses, you go through some horse stables, a farriers workshop etc. Waited about 40 minutes. Operations were "interesting"....A single op in the booth, none in the platform, it was up to you to get into the car, close your harness. No checks, and the op dispatched.
29791216_10155237200251105_7925481923424055929_n.jpg

It was a nice ride family ride, very small seats and the helix sections are no more intense than a roller skater, and it was pretty cool how on the first set of helices you are going through the castle towers, gaining speed and the helix gets tighter. The airtime hill section was nice too, a few little pops and it was incorporated nicely with the landscaping.
29683275_10155237200091105_5223106861345795590_n.jpg

In one of the castle towers they have randomly painted the words "Wetten dass....?" (Bet that) what was that supposed to mean?

I had flammkutchen for lunch which is like a thin crust German pizza with white sauce, and sat and watched the cake ride:
29791924_10155237200766105_1067868073250922819_n.jpg

The middle of the park has an insane variety of 'tracked' rides...Car rides, cycle monorails, spinning tubs, horses...There must have been at least 8 or so!
I just did the type I haven't done before, the wine barrel ride, which appeared to run over sensors at various points, and start spinning, and then stop at the next sensor, so at least you don't get spun non stop. Cute. More parks should have this, seemed more popular than a regular car ride.
29684081_10155237200851105_3500046367834837069_n.jpg

There was also a slide in the old mill tower
19059912_10155237201071105_4758826245390649856_n.jpg

And a funhouse, with various ways to trip and **** yourself up.

This thing was cool, like a cross between a frog hopper and one of those tilting intamin drop towers, except the tilting part was much more pronounced so you got flung foward in your seat a bit, and with all your center of gravity above the lap bar, it was kind of wild!
29595211_10155237201181105_1632888066024075816_n.jpg

It was all very pleasant
28379753_10155237200971105_8927402109444523698_n.jpg

The last coaster was "Racing Millepede"
http://instagr.am/p/BhEgM_xnPL4/ I always forget whether you should sit in the front or the back of a longboi coaster like this, so for a change I sat in the middle. Next!

I spent most of the day there, with a few re-rides on Karacho and Mammut, and had an explore around the Vinarium (You get a free shot glass type thing with your admission ticket)

I quite liked the variety of kids attractions they had on offer, and a lot of it seemed fun and interactive, which goes to show you can do better than just picking random spinny things from the Zamperla catalogue.
So that's Tripsdrill. I quite liked it, happy to see it keep growing, but perhaps it could do with a dark ride.

I've been to Skyline Park last week and I was quite pleasantly surprised by the place. The atmosphere was pretty nice, but considering it was a Saturday with nice weather, the crowds weren't exactly big. Sky Rider was certainly more warmed up for me too, with picking quite a lot of speed towards the end of the course. A nice surprise, considering I hated the regular Batflyers at Plopsaland.
Interestingly enough they were sending Sky Wheel around for two laps, despite the place being more crowded than it was on your visit. I'd prefer if they didn't, though, since the ride was just vile, I liked the one in Dreamworld much better.

In one of the castle towers they have randomly painted the words "Wetten dass....?" (Bet that) what was that supposed to mean?
"Wetten dass...?" was a popular German TV (game?) show and I think that they had someone riding Tripsdrill's coasters (Mammut and G'sengte Sau) on roller skates in one of the episodes.

Yeah I still probably would, but by about the third to last day I was getting a bit tired and over it.
I think 3.5 weeks overseas is the sweet spot. I was away for just over 4.

****

So the day after Tripsdrill was Stuttgart, which was a quasi rest day, but we still had a good look around the city (Though I couldn't be arsed going to the Mercedes museum despite it being a couple of hundred meters from my hotel. But this only pic I put on FB was a ****ty panorama of the plaza between the various Mercedes buildings so there you go.

Oh, and the paternoster in the city hall.

The next day was a later start.

We got to Europa Park Aound 11. I was with Mum and Dad, so we started off doing a few things they would enjoy.

Overall impressions of Europa...Wow! The park is unmatched in terms of having a wide variety of attractions on offer. Theres just ****loads of everything, coasters, flats, water rides, kids play areas, transport rides, shows, dark rides, themed areas, buildings to explore. You cold potentially fill three days here! A decent size, without being unmanageable. And the place is spotless, and the staff are efficient, and the food is good, and the ticket prices are reasonable. I can't think of anything wrong with the place. I do reckon they were a bit late to the game in terms of building big coasters, because they were the most popular. But equally, the two big high quality indoor attractions are very popular too. Just keep building good stuff!

The first thing was Arthur, a seriously impressive indoor outdoor family suspended powered coaster with spinning cars. In some ways, it gave me a vibe of a gentle version of harry potter and the forbidden journey. Nice sets, good use of scents a gorgeous indoor kids area to boot. It felt like something that would be quite at home at Universal or Disney. The "Coaster" parts of the ride were nice and speedy too. I did think it was funny that in that futuristic bug city part of the ride there was snoop dog as the background music, and the first word you hear is Nier in the lyrics.

The food outlet had this bug thing that spewed a pleasant orange pineapple concoction out of its mouth. I love it when parks do a special beverage in an area.

Next up was Voletarium. I don't get why enthusiasts always have such disdain for flying theatres, I reckon they are very enjoayble.
Europas is no exception, with the film being a flight around the sights of Europe. One thing I liked was that it didn't rely on awkward jump cuts between the scenes, nor did it cheat by just doing a transition by filling the screen with 'cloud'. Instead, things were carefully composited in post production, so the scenes would meld into each other, even if it wasn't entirely geographically accurate...For example you'd be up in the alps and would fly through a gap in the mountains, but the gap in the mountains would reveal a city beyond.
The queue line was wonderfully themed though, and the preshow was told by an Eve (From Wall E) type flying drone character that hovered above the preshow room.

After that, the first actual coaster was Schweizer Bobbahn. Probably waited 20-30 minutes, but it was 'okay', seemed a bit smaller and less forceful.
I did like the Swiss village area below it. You could go in and explore every building, get some nice vantage points of the coaster, buy fondue, tipetoe through a ford running through the area.....A staff member even came through with a gaggle of geese.

Lunch was at foodloop. I had this chicken and sweet potato dish. I was at this point I was kind of gnashing my teeth a bit at how bottled drinks seem to be so small in Germany.
As I've since discovered, there are several of these now according to http://www.rollercoasterrestaurant.com/ ....Even saw one in Hamburg later in the trip.
The gimmick is obviously popular, with a line to get in to the venue all day. Inside, there's plenty of decor based around the history of Mack, which was cool.

After lunch we split up for a bit so I could do the big rides, and they could do other stuff.

So obvs I went to Blue Fire
29598033_10155242324841105_4092329111182114816_n.jpg

Yay, this thing is awesome. The launch lacks the initial kick, but the rest of the layout makes up for it, with snappy inversions and turns, a heartline roll that attempts to chuck you out, and some great near misses with some beautiful rockwork. The dark ride section is funny too, basically you are going through an underground drilling operation, and then before the launch there is a crazy icelandic worker that says something like "I zink ze have a prooobleem" before you are fired out.
The ride is well paced too and well balanced in terms of a mixture of elements....An example for Pokemaniac of a "best layout"?

Next along was Wodan Timbur Coaster . Two puns in a name is just too much.
People have said this is Meh, but it was fantastic, owing to a recent retrack. It belted through the layout, and had some great drops, particularly that first drop you get yanked down. One moment in particular I liked was this sudden transition to the right before the turnaround that goes around Atlantica Supersplash. The way it is constantly darting in and out of tunnels really adds to the experience too.
29694862_10155242324786105_4977533097932226560_n.jpg

The queue theming is nice too, where you go through troll caves with various glowing rocks, and statues and so forth. The classy theming continues into the station, with a series of wooden soldiers on the wall that all move their heads and clunk in sequence.

But really, I had a go at Whale Adventures: Northern Lights. This is basically a repurposed splash battle, where instead of wetting other riders, you use the water guns to set off the theming, so you get stuff like an oil drum at a dock that explodes, or seals that spit, and penguins that spit. But you don't actually get wet, and the parts of the course where you might shoot other boats have had rock walls put up to prevent this, and the water guns on the perimeter of the course have been disabled too. I ran into mum and dad here anyway so we rode together.

I liked how in the theming there was welder, branded "MACKTECH". No pic anymore cos it was one of the lost ones.

29792697_10155242325006105_8826106455535910912_n.jpg

Moving around the park some more, was Atlantica Supersplash
Feels dirty counting this since it's more of a shoot the chutes, but again, seriously impressive theming, with a shipwreck full of sailor animatronics (And you can make your way onto the upper deck where there is a bar and viewing area) The ride wasn't that wet thankfully.

After this was Euro Mir
Wasn't taken by this one to be honest (Apart from the catchy music), it just spends forever going up the lift hill, and then forever doing switchbacks around those glassy towers, and then finally you get to the coaster part, which was decent enough i guess, with a big floater hill in the layout and some forceful turns right at the end. Some riders cannot hack it sadly though.

30225996_10155247577196105_2567192997535940608_n.jpg

After that was Pegasus, a very punchy kids coaster with some nice archeological dig theming. It's a bit out of the way where it is, shoved behind a couple of rides and underneath the high section of the water coaster. I wonder how many families miss this?

29598045_10155242325321105_593315286304686080_n.jpg

I think after that I did Fluch Der Kassandra, a fairly good madhouse ride. It did the job, but perhaps wasn't as atmospheric as Hex, nor did it have a preshow. The ride is fairly nondescript and could be easy to miss if you didn't know about it.

******
I'm going to break this trip report here, since I had a couple of days in the park, and there are a lot of things I went on. More to come.

This ride has underrated music by the way.

The next coaster was Posiedon , a water coaster. I knew what to expect since we have one at Sea World, and this was more or less the same except one of the drops has an extra turn.
30124499_10155242325281105_2797529246057103360_n.jpg

and there is a whole second drop that is basically a shoot the chutes type deal, that is really just more of the same.

But it did feel a bit more loose than my local one, so it picks up speed a bit quicker, and seemed a bit more foreceful, but was rougher too. I liked how it had a decent length of floaty sections too.
29597736_10155242325386105_1678742114294300672_n.jpg

The theming was great, but no real story to speak of.
29684235_10155242325446105_3388446579105988608_n.jpg

Perhaps my only bad encounter with staff was here. A boat pulled up, gates opened as i was arriving in the station, i sat down.
The op on the platform thought i was a previous rider who was refusing to exit, they kept repeating "you have to leave, you have to leave", my limited german wasnt much help...."err...ich nich fahrt?", it was only when I pointed out that my clothes were dry that they realised that I had only just boarded :/

Actually all of the Greek Area had great theming, probably my favourite in the park.

So next up was Silver Star. You know when sometimes you look at something for years, and then you only just 'get' it and feel like an idiot. I always wondered why they chose the name silver star...Just sounded like a boring generic name that was inoffensive for a big ride and fitted the 'brand' of Europa Park at the time. The wierd little flying rock shape was no help either. I knew the ride was sponsored by Mercedes too, but whenever that thought popped into my head, I was like "Mercedes Isn't French, why is it in that part of the park?
Eventually it clicked....Oh, its called Sliver Star because of the Mercedes Benz logo! Derpderpderp.
In the exhibition area the exit there was a weak effort to tie it into the French area, with a sign that read "You are here" with a map of france with Le Mans highlighted.
A Disaster Transport "Weclome to Canada" moment?
29683150_10155242325491105_1447070551850876928_n.jpg

The ride was better than I had heard, with good moments of sustained floater and kept its speed well. From memory the last couple of hills were pretty good in particular.

Spited by this one. Apparently as part of the changes they have figured out a couple of places to add pops of airtime, within the limitations of the existing structure and layout.
30262005_10155247577776105_1556601233035231232_n.jpg

Next coaster was Ba-a-a-a Express in a fantastic Irish themed kids area.
An the coaster has immense theming for its size, with grassy topped rockwork, and a cute Rastafarian sheep sitting in the middle with his/her friends.

30265139_10155247577666105_2718182946488975360_n.jpg

Next coaster was the Alpenexpress which passes through an elaborate, colourful mountain troll themed caved, which I discovered you can actually go walk through, eventually leading into an elaborately themed hallway with mosaics. This is what I am talking about when I say the park has endless areas to go exploring, and if you explore you are rewarded. The coaster itself was fine.

The final big ride I closed out on was the rapids ride, figuring if i got wet I could just crank the heater in the car , take shoes off etc and change my shirt straight away.
It had a couple of good wave generator sections, plus a whole section of animatronic characters you dont really see from off the ride.

But day 2 was basically re-rides, and riding the minor attractions I hadn't done yet, including the Virgin Glacier Flyer, which can be seen in the middle of this pic below. It's basically like a scrambler, but you ride in little planes, and the swing out, but what makes it interesting is the mechanism keeps the planes facing fowards the whole time as your little group of 4 planes rotates on the end of the arm, so you get this sensation of flying in formation, with each plane taking its turn at the front.

Much like Alton, the park was established on an old pleasure garden with a castle, and this is the Europa castle and garden, which is to the left of the main entrance street.
30124148_10155247576531105_8638143564083101696_n.jpg

Actually, thats the one thing you can fault with the park, basically any animatronic (Except in Arthur) and especially any human figure, looked like a bad store mannequin and had bad movements. There's no shortage of engineering expertise in the organisation, nor any lack of in house creative talent, so why.
This African boat ride being an example.
30261621_10155247576981105_4340143780653957120_n.jpg

The other fault...The Luxemborg area had literally nothing that felt like Luxemborg IMO.
Given the lack of pics at my disposal, ill run through everything else I tried in the order it is listed on the map beside me:

Jim Button, journey through Morrowland

A new thing where you ride in individual locomotives through various tunnels and facades, and a couple of figurines presumably from the film. Train obsessed kids would love it. I did laugh how the station had german style timetables and Verkehrsverbund maps.

Puppet Boat Ride
Mostly Just Rode because I've not ridden one of those farberge egg boat rides before. Cute in a word, and one case where animatronics dont need to be humanlike to be effective.

Volo Da Vinci
Suspended cycle monorail thing with nice views over the various boat and car rides at the front of the park.

Ghost Castle
Haunted mansion knock off with many of the same tropes, including the stretching preshow room, though there was a cool transylvanian lab type thing.

Picolo Mondo

Cutsey dark ride through some romanticised stereotypical scenes of Italy.

Arena of Football, Football Scooter.
Bumper cars, but there were touch sensitive goals and a giant ball rolling around in the arena, so if you bumped the ball into the goal at the end a mighty "goooooaaaall"would erupt over the sound speaker.

Snowflake Sleigh Ride
Bit of a pointless short dark ride in the russian area that just went through wintry scenes with mannequins of people singing, dressed all rugged up.

Mir Space Station
A walkthrough of a re-creation of the mir space station, with models of all the usual **** like the toilet, the bed with straps, and the control module, and bad store mannequin astronauts.

Dome of Dreams
A large dome cinema, playing a French/German language film called the secrets of gravity. Understood none of it, but it was kind of interesting seeing how the dome cinema format was used. In particular there was a well done part where you are floating through a lattice of atoms, and it felt very convincing in terms of being an actual 3D grid rather than something that was all distorted around the dome.

Rulantica Preview Center
Lots of nice artwork and models of the coming water park. The theming is going to be amazing, for example the stair shafts for the slides aren't going to be just plain concrerte, they'll be like you are climbing up through a cave with stalactites. I still reckon they missed an opportunity by not having a hydromagnetic slide and a Tornado in the lineup for the park....both would be slam dunk.

Grimms Enchanted Forest
I wandered through here. A good example of the park having heaps of things to see and do (Albeit this is for young families), with dioramas of various fairytales, and a lot of interactive things....I wonder if this was inspired by Efteling (Europa does seem to have a bit of 'borrowing'

Atlantis Adventure
A fun little continuous chain dark ride, with an upbeat sound track, that becomes grim for a little bit when you get to the "scary sea monster" part, but then the music perks up again ,and you are out of danger and all is good. the ride is basically through a series of underwater scenes, with cutsey underwater stuff like fish and anchors so forth to shoot at.

Pirates in Batavia
POTC but with a south east asian theme, with a lot of Bhuddist temples and so forth, and quite beautiful in parts.

I had some nice satay noodles from the restaurant overlooking the ride here, and they ran an impressive performance of acrobats as I was eating too.

Tirol Log Flume
Basic Bitch log flume but it went through that nice troll cave, and the queue line had buttons you could press that played youdelling, and you could attempt to repeat it.
I'm suprised they haven't ripped this out and put in a fancier Mack flume like Dudleys at IOA?

I also went on both monorails and half a lap on the train ride. The monorail actually uses trains that were used at the monorail at Brisbane Expo 88.

I think that's everything? Let me know if there are any obvious attractions I missed?

I'll finish off with some unsorted photos.....The park is just plain attractive:

Onwards, heading north the next park was Holiday Park

To get here I took a train to HaBloch then a bus to the park. A word of warning, its only standard bus that turns up, so if there is a big crowd you can potentially not get on board, and waste an hour for the next one. Fortunately I was fine, those retracing my steps should make sure they are in position and holding their spot at the bus stop before it arrives.

I had an express pass, which was probably a bit of a superfluous purchase other than allowing me to whore a quick several front row rides at the end of my visit on EGF.
I ended up staying 2.5 hours, because the alternative was spending 4.5 hours there due to a 2 hour gap in the return bus schedule, and that would have spoiled my genius plan....

Again a nice looking park, and Plopsa have done a good job at tarting it up, that said the Anubis drop ride theming seemed kind of lame, it was literally just a poster with characters from the show.

I headed towards the back of the park first, figuring I'd get Sky Scream out of the way, but it was broken so I figured whilst I was in the area I'd just do some flats and let the inevitable first rush at EGF die down.
The california beach area was nicely done.

I've never actually done one of these Zierer Jetskis...felt a bit like a flatter version of a flying scooter, with the ability to steer your rudder allowing you to generate sudden bursts of lateral force (you could fall over if it werent for the cage you stand in!), and subsequent waves for bystanders...I could have done without the water that slowly pools around your feet during the ride but.

I did the star flyer too, which was pleasant enough, though you really just overlook expanses of forest.
The "naked" theming on the wave swinger worked really well I thought, it was part of an air show themed zone.

Finally, I had a go at their sky fly because it was walk on. Remember how I complained about the difficulty of flipping on the Tripsdrill one. This was at the other end of the spectrum, and you barely had to try to get it flipping non stop. Wheeee!

So, time to stop procrastinating and ride EGF since Sky Scream still wasn't running.

EGF, I did several rides in several spots on the train. If I were to sum up the ride, it feels just as "calculated" as a B&M hyper, but it's just that the airtime is way stronger. That's one thing this ride excels at, really powerful airtime that flings you over the hills, particularly the first big hill. And the first drop is awesome too. Overall it's a great ride, but perhaps lacks some of the flair that newer hypers and airtime machines have.

Yeah boiiii

I went and had a ride of that Castle ghost train the park has, which basically goes through a series of scenes with people in miserable situations.
But finally, Sky Scream was open. I had a go in the front and the back. These are my favourite clones.

The amount of air you get at the top of the vertical climb and the vertical drop is insane, good twisting air on the non inverting loop, hang time in the twist, it's fast, it's disorientating, and just a load of fun.

The queue line is a horror walkthrough, with a few automatic effects like air blasts and buzzing floors.

The Wickie flume ride was cute, the load station was stuffed full of boats moving at a snails pace, so it looks like it is high capacity but in reality it takes forever to even get out of the station. The scenes were static props....The little girl smiling, a crisis moment when she is facing against a baddie, her friends helping her...simple and fun.

With the last bit of time I had I did a quick lap around the Maya bee kids area, which was packed! But a really nice art style and well executed.

An opportunity for more pidgin German before I left.... "Ist tabaluga boot fahrt geschossen fur bau?". I knew the park had a dark boat ride, but it hadn't clicked that the indoor bit they were building had replaced it Oh well, well and truly finished at the park then.

The next park was Miramar Erlibnisbad, an indoor water park with a few unique slide types I wanted to try.
It's interesting because the park was decorated by a local artist.
Tuberides.de is a guilty pleasure of mine, which is how i discovered the place, so you should probably just go watch their POVs.
I was a bit of an idiot and didnt upload a pic of one of the most interestin slides, which was a bowl combined with a quarter pipe slide, ah well.

30128020_10155248323666105_7703961625715277824_n.jpg

Blizzard is the huge curving turbo slide and was ****ing terrifying and got loads of water in your face. The other one was a conventional enclosed slide.

30261015_10155248323356105_8209135296818708480_n.jpg

They also had a double looping water slide, but as you can see the 2nd loop is so flat you dont notice much. It had loads of water spraying in your face, but this time the source was from an array of sprayers that keep the slide moist.

30415350_10155248323561105_2919274848591020032_n.jpg

As you can see there was also a clear section on the first drop.
30411915_10155248323491105_3248969470378508288_n.jpg

The chequered slide is one of those magic eye slides where you ride in a ring and there's no dispatch interval to speak of, so the locals just ride in massive groups and nobody gives a ****. And then on top of that some people ride without rings, except they don't seem to go as fast so the ring riders catch up and collide with them. Fun times.

There was also one called Twister, which was a single person raft slide, except it went into a nearly full sized tornado. Normally on the single person slides they use those mini tornadoes:
tornado-12-funnels-adventureland-iowa-usa-tear-drop-header1-e1405623257881.jpg

But this one being bigger gave much more airtime.

The last slide i mentioned was this thing:
miramar-has-some-seriously.jpg

Youd go down a drop to pick up speed, essential drop sideways into the bowl (Normally these slides transition in quite seamlessly, but this one you transition in at the top of the wall and slide sideways down a good meter or so....hold on! then after that is a helix, and you go into that curved mini quarter pipe thing and come out backwards.
So after a couple of rides on everything it was time for an unplanned addition to the trip. My nights accommodation was in Cologne....I had no intention of visiting Frankfurt because nothing really caught my eye and as it was I was hard up trying to squeeze in everything I wanted to see.

But since I had to change trains somewhere, and it was only going to be 30 min longer if I routed via Frankfurt I did, so at about 3 or 4 in the afternoon I lobbed in.

And caught their gross coloured U bahn.

For this! Olympia Looping wasn't anywhere on the trip, but I felt this was a good consolation prize.

30226428_10155248872131105_3918179049301606400_n.jpg

Awesome fun, forceful, and no seat dividers so it got a bit wild in parts. I always thought it was Intamin that came up with the "twisted hill" but this ride had one right at the end, combining laterals and airtime.

30415310_10155248872666105_6519222758566526976_n.jpg

The first floater hill was okay.
30261247_10155248873611105_8822454023937327104_n.jpg

And great value for money I felt. 5 EUR a go, so I did a couple of laps.
30227005_10155248873451105_2478838321892032512_n.jpg

This drop tower was enormous for a portable one, and you got two full cycles for your money. Awesome.
So yeah, another coaster to add to the count, and worth the diversion.

30222300_10155248873166105_4597200687170846720_n.jpg

German fairs are great. Free to get in, easy to navigate, a good mix of rides on offer (None of this bull**** where you see three breakdances or whatever)

30265254_10155248872956105_2259015165468999680_n.jpg

Stupidly, I had the opportunity to ride a Zierer Hexentanz, it was there and everything, but I went and rode the flume ride to give my stomach a chance to recover after the Tagada, and I must have been over tired because and distracted because it wasnt till later that night that I realised I had forgotten to go back and ride it!

30226775_10155248873251105_5962782416492822528_n.jpg

This flume was quite elaborate, with actual reversing turntables and so forth. Sure beats those meh Reverchon ones.

With the fair done I had a couple of hours to just amble through Central Frankfurt and admire the skyscrapers.

30261428_10155248868406105_5604984329038987264_n.jpg

Felt like Melbourne at street level in parts.

30412314_10155248868066105_1602910588327952384_n.jpg

I stumbled across this by accident. The whole base of the sign is covered in graffiti and anti capitalist stickers.
30415120_10155248867871105_4176446445106233344_n.jpg

And then finally I was back where I started earlier in the arvo.

30412132_10155248871456105_4143944735360286720_n.jpg

I had to change trains at the Airport ICE station, which was a marvel, but quite a long walk between the S bahn platforms and the ICE platforms.
30412400_10155248871806105_8458439688582070272_n.jpg

Turns out the Frankfurt to Cologne section of the ICE network is the fastest, with my phone GPS showing it was reaching 300 km/h. My first time on a proper high speed train, but perhaps not as fun as it could have been because it was night time. It was quite cool the way it climbed steep hills and you'd almost feel some positive Gs, or the way your ears popped everytime you blasted through a tunnel.

30261674_10155248871996105_1772142848230031360_n.jpg

I arrived in Cologne around 11 and went to bed.
