Coasters That Go Backward

I think what got me thinking about this question was ZDT’s Switchback. I rode it ten times, and in the process I started realizing that I considered the forward ride a lot of fun with good airtime, but whenever the train reached that final spike to start the return journey I was already thinking the main ride was over and this was just a gimmicky way to return to the station.

C if done right, a la Thirteen. If not, then E. I found Swarm and X backwards really nauseating and unnecessary.

Adult (including GIBs) boomerangs and shuttle loops it's "A" or "B"
on coasters which have small backwards sections it's "C"
junior boomerangs are "D" or "E"
wholly backward coasters are an "E"

For me it's normally D, but in select cases C. On a rougher coaster (i.e. boomerangs) backwards sections are boring and gimmicky, but on smoother coasters (most notably Time Traveler) backwards sections can be awesome. That first drop backwards is insanity.

C ool for the fun family stuff.

E ww for boomerangs and stuff.

I would say it is a good thing. It adds an extra level of thrill and as seen on DC Rivals it can work on more intense rides and as an upcharge.
